ISA’s Research and Workshop Grant program was created in 1992 to support and advance workshops. In 2007, the Governing Council substantially expanded and restructured the Workshop Grant Program, more than doubling the total amount of funds available. Today, the Workshops Grant Program is a vibrant part of ISA’s support structure for the advancement of knowledge within the international studies community.
Please note that due to issues related to the cancellation of the 2020 annual convention, and the necessity to rollover the 2020 workshops, funding available for the workshop & research grants program is down this year from $160 000 to $30 000.
Research Workshop Grants (up to $10,000) are targeted for projects that aim to apply new expertise or new approaches to established research topics and are likely to catalyze rapid and innovative advances. These grants aim to bring together small groups of participants focusing on a significant research problem that stimulates cross-national examination or perspectives and engages the interests of several disciplines. The workshop itself is expected to result in significant scholarly outputs, such as a book-length manuscript and scholarly articles.
Research Workshop Grant Submissions for the ISA 2021 Annual Convention have now passed. Workshop recipients will receive notification of their acceptance in mid-September.
