ISA’s Research and Workshop Grant program was created in 1992 to support and advance workshops. In 2007, the Governing Council substantially expanded and restructured the Workshop Grant Program, more than doubling the total amount of funds available. Today, the Workshops Grant Program is a vibrant part of ISA’s support structure for the advancement of knowledge within the international studies community.
Research Workshop Grants (up to $2,500) are targeted for projects that aim to apply new expertise or new approaches to established research topics and are likely to catalyze rapid and innovative advances. These grants aim to bring together small groups of participants focusing on a significant research problem that stimulates cross-national examination or perspectives and engages the interests of several disciplines. The workshop itself is expected to result in significant scholarly outputs, such as a book-length manuscript and scholarly articles.
Please note that for the 2021 round only, all workshops must be organized in virtual format. Funding available for the workshop & research grants program is up this year from $30,000 to $50,000.
The application deadline for 2021 is June 30, 2021. For more information and to submit your proposal, please visit our application page.
Research Workshop Grant Submissions for the ISA 2021 Annual Convention have now passed. Workshop recipients will receive notification of their acceptance in mid-September.
