LGBTQA, HR, & GSCIS Global South Scholars Travel Award

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Allies Caucus (LGBTQA) together with the Human Rights (HR) Section and the Global South (GSCIS) Caucus have created this convention award to support costs of travel and/or visa for a scholar who is normally located in the global south to attend the annual ISA convention.

Please click to expand any heading below for more information.

  1. Recipients must be current members of ISA.
  2. At the time of conference registration, awardees should be or register to be members of the LGBTQA+ Caucus or the Human Rights Section.
  3. The award is for scholars located in the global south, whose work contributes to scholarship on human rights and/or LGBTQ+ politics, with a primary preference for scholars who identify as LGBTQ+.
  • A $750.00 (USD) cash prize will be awarded.
  • The selection committee, made up of three individuals from each contributing section/caucus, will select a recipient located in the global south. Primary preference will be given to scholars who identify as LGBTQ+, and awardees should be contributing to existing scholarship on human rights and/or LGBTQ+ politics. Preference should also be given to a scholar that is normally employed or a registered student of an institution that has minimal support for conference travel. If the selection committee is unable to select a single awardee, then the selection committee may choose to split the award among two scholars; provide the two scholars each with an award totalling 500$ (dependent on finances); or request an external adjudication by the chair of either caucus or section.
  • Awardees may request to remain anonymous for security or personal reasons, particularly if they identify as LGBTQ+ or are conducting research of LGBTQ+ politics.
  • Applicants are asked to submit a short biography and accepted abstract of the work that they will be presenting (or the abstract of the roundtable they will be participating in).
  • Applications should be sent to Section Chair Lisa McIntosh Sundstrom by 15 October, 2021.
