ISA Canada Student Paper Award

Graduate students are important members of ISA-Canada, therefore it is pleased to present the inaugural ISA Canada Student Paper Prize each year, according to the terms of reference adopted by the membership of ISA Canada in March 2011.

General Information

Recipients must meet the Following Criteria

  1. Open to all PhD students who are members of ISA and ISA-Canada.
  2. Open to PhD students in any of the disciplines that fall under the aegis of International Studies.
  3. To be awarded for a previously unpublished, single authored paper delivered at the ISA meeting in that given year.
  4. PhD dissertation chapters will be accepted if they are previously unpublished.
  5. To be awarded to a paper written in either French or English.
  6. Submissions are to be no longer than 8000 words (including notes, tables, figures, and reference list/ bibliography).

Prize

  • The recipient will receive a certificate and $500.
  • To be awarded at the reception held by ISA-Canada at the Annual Meeting of the International Studies Association.

Selection Process

  • Jury is to be appointed by the President of ISA-Canada and sit for a two-year period.
  • Jury is to be composed of senior scholars representing the diversity of International Studies.
  • Jury must include three members of ISA-Canada.
  • Jury members will either be a Canadian citizen teaching abroad or a member teaching at a Canadian university.
  • Jury will include at least one member who speaks both French and English.
  • Jury members are bound by the standard rules of conflict of interest and will not be members of the ISA-Canada executive.
  • Chair of the jury will be by appointed of the President of ISA-Canada.

Apply For This Award

  • Papers may be in either French or English. Submissions will be evaluated by the ISA Canada Paper Prize Jury according to originality, strength and clarity of argument, and contribution to the appropriate literature.
  • By February 28, 2018 please submit an abstract of 200 words or less to: hender@yorku.ca
