ICOMM Book Award

The International Communication Book Award is presented at the International Studies Association Annual Meeting to the book that is nominated and deemed to have made the most substantial impact in the area of International Communication in the context of international studies.

General Information

Recipients must meet the Following Criteria

  • The book must be published and have a copyright date that falls within the five year period preceding the year that of the competition. For example, books published in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 are eligible to be nominated for the 2019 Award.
  • Recipient(s) must be a current member of ISA. The award is open to both members and non-members of ISA. However, any non-member recipient must join the Association to receive the award.
  • The book may have more than one author, but edited volumes, textbooks and translations are not eligible.
  • The nomination must be made by a member of the International Communication Section.
  • The publisher or author should be able to provide five examination copies or e-copies to the members of the award committee.
  • In the event that the selection committee finds there is no book worthy of the award, no award will be given.

How to Nominate a Book

 

  • The nomination must be made by a member of the International Communication Section.
  • The publisher or author should be able to provide five examination copies or e-copies to the members of the award committee.
  • In the event that the selection committee finds there is no book worthy of the award, no award will be given.
  • Nominations are due by July 15 of the year preceding the award (for example by July 15, 2018 for the award that will be given at the 2019 annual meeting).
  • To nominate a book please send an email to the committee chair outlining why the book deserves the nomination.
  • The publisher or author should be able to provide five examination copies or e-copies to the members of the award committee upon request.

Prize

  • The recipient will receive a plaque.
  • The winner of the award will be recognized at the ISA Awards Ceremony and the International Communication Section Business Meeting and Reception

Selection Process

  • The selection committee will have two members and one chair who will be nominated by the Executive Committee of the International Communication Section at the ISA annual meeting the year prior to the award being given.
  • The selection committee will develop its own rules for evaluating the books.
  • In the event that the selection committee finds there is no book worthy of the award, no award will be given.
