Journal of Global Security Studies - Call for Forum Proposals

ISA's newest journal, The Journal of Global Security Studies (JoGGS) invites proposals for a forum on the topic: ‘Censorship in Security Studies.’ The deadline for proposals for individual or multiple papers is October 31, 2015.

Rosenau Post-Doc Fellowship Recipient

The International Studies Association is pleased to announce that Kerry Crawford, Assistant Professor of Political Science at James Madison University, is the recipient of the 2015 James N. Rosenau Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The Rosenau Fellowship will allow Professor Crawford to spend the academic year further developing her research agenda, as well as collaborating with ISA HQ on a number of projects.

Annual Convention 2016

The International Studies Association is pleased to announce our 2016 Annual Convention, March 16-19, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The program will be announced on September 17, 2015. Watch for detailed information on hotel reservations and other important convention information via email later this month.

Working Groups Applications

We are excited to announce that we are sponsoring two Working Groups at the upcoming ISA 2016 Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Working Groups offer attendees a forum for dialogue and interaction around designated issue areas. Participation in ISA Working Groups is open and free to all ISA members. The application for participation opens September 21, 2015 and closes October 2nd, 2015.

The ISA Career Course program provides opportunities for conference participants to learn a new skill, or hone an old skill, while attending the convention. 2016 Career Courses include: "Case Writing and Case Teaching in International Relations", "Training Future Peacebuilders", "Simulations and Games in International Relations" and "How to Successfully Use Participatory Methods for Training and Education".

ISA is now accepting reservations for meetings, receptions, and non-panel events for the ISA 2016 convention. The deadline for submissions and catering orders is December 1, 2015. Availability is limited so schedule soon (before we run out of space at the HQ hotel). Please do not contact the hotels directly as ISA has all meeting spaces at both the Hilton Atlanta and the Sheraton Atlanta - contact Jeanne White for assistance or to make arrangements.

FTGS Graduate Student Paper Award Recipient

The Feminist Theory and Gender Studies section is awarding the Graduate Student Paper Award 2015 to Nicole Sunday Grove, formerly of Johns Hopkins University and now at University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The paper is titled 'The Cartographic Ambiguities of HarassMap: Crowdmapping Security and Sexual Violence in Egypt'. The award will be conferred at the FTGS reception and award ceremony at the ISA Annual Convention 2016 in Atlanta, USA. The Committee is grateful to everyone who nominated a paper for consideration; the field was very strong again this year and it was a pleasure to engage with and celebrate such excellent, and diverse, feminist scholarship.

IPE Section 2016 Awards

The International Political Economy Section is pleased to announce that the following scholars will be honored at the 2016 convention: Professor John Ravenhill (Distinguished Scholar Award), Professor Margaret Levi (Outstanding Activist Scholar Award) and Professor David Leblang (SWIPE Mentor Award). The section has organized three special roundtables focusing on the work and mentorship of the three scholars as part of the convention program. We hope that many of you will join us for these roundtables as well as for the section reception honoring our awardees on Friday, March 18, 2016.

ISA-Canada Distinguished Scholar Award Recipient

ISA-Canada is extremely pleased to report that the ISA-Canada Distinguished Scholar Award committee has completed its deliberations and nominated Professor Sandra Whitworth from York University as the ISA-Canada 2016 Distinguished Scholar. Professor Whitworth has been a leader in feminist approaches to International Relations, especially in relation to security, peacekeeping, and human rights activism.

Peace Dissertation Prize

At the 2015 International Studies Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans, the United States Institute of Peace celebrated its 30th anniversary and its enduring support for the International Studies Association by establishing an an within ISA an annual prize to be given for the best peace studies dissertation written in a calendar year. The prize will honor an outstanding dissertation on the analysis of violent conflict, conflict resolution, peacemaking, or peacebuilding completed in a U.S. PhD. program. Nominations are due by September 30, 2015.

APSA 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award

Harvey Starr, former ISA President, has been recognized by the Conflict Processes Section of the American Political Science Association with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of scholarly contributions that have fundamentally changed the study of conflict processes.
