Nominating Committee Report

After careful deliberation, the International Studies Association Nominating Committee (David Capie, Nanette Levinson, Scott Gartner, Mark Crescenzi, Norrin Ripsman, Sabine Carey, Tricia Lynne Sullivan, Birol Yesilada) agreed on a single slate of candidates for ISA Officers:

  • President: Brett Ashley Leeds (Rice University)
  • Vice President: Rorden Wilkinson (U. of Sussex, UK)
  • Vice President: Jennifer Sterling-Folker (Univ. of Connecticut)
  • Vice President: Audie Klotz (Syracuse University)

We also selected nominees for at-large representatives to the governing council from outside the recognized ISA regions. Our charge is to forward five candidates for three positions. We recommend the following candidates:

  • Belgin San-Akca (Koc University, Turkey)
  • Thomas Bernauer (ETH Zurich, Switzerland)
  • David Hornsby (University of Witwatersrand, South Africa)
  • Gunther Hellmann (Goethe University, Germany)
  • Omar McDoom (LSE, UK)

IPS Call for Editors

The Publications Committee of ISA invites applications for the new editorial team of the journal International Political Sociology. The individual or team then selected to serve as editor(s) of IPS will hold that position for a five-year term January 1, 2017 December 31, 2021. Applications should be received no later than September 15, 2015.

Program Update- Travel Grant Deadline

We received an overwhelming response to this coming meeting in Atlanta and the Program Team is currently hard at work crafting the Program (to be announced on September 17, 2015). In the meantime, don't forget that applications for travel grants will close on September 8, 2015.

Working Groups at the ISA 2016 Annual Convention

We are excited to announce that we are sponsoring two Working Groups at the upcoming ISA 2016 Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Working Groups offer attendees a forum for dialogue and interaction around designated issue areas. Participation in ISA Working Groups is open and free to all ISA members. The application for participation opens September 19, 2015 and closes October 2nd, 2015.

Alexander George Award

ISA's Foreign Policy Analysis Section (FPA) welcomes nominations for the Alexander George Award for the best graduate student paper at ISA in Foreign Policy Analysis (i.e., on a panel sponsored by the FPA section) by September 1, 2015. Each nomination should include a letter from the professor who supervised the writing of the paper. Please send your nominations to the chair of the Alexander George subcommittee, Sibel Oktay.

Peace Dissertation Prize

At the 2015 International Studies Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans, the United States Institute of Peace celebrated its 30th anniversary and its enduring support for the International Studies Association by establishing an an within ISA an annual prize to be given for the best peace studies dissertation written in a calendar year. The prize will honor an outstanding dissertation on the analysis of violent conflict, conflict resolution, peacemaking, or peacebuilding completed in a U.S. PhD. program. Nominations are due by September 30, 2015.
