Save the Date! Belgrade 2019 

The International Studies Association, the Central and East European International Studies Association and the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Political Sciences, is pleased to announce the 2019 CEEISA/ISA Joint International Conference taking place at the University of Belgrade. The joint CEEISA/ISA Conference is scheduled for June 17-19, 2019 in Belgrade, Serbia on the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Political Sciences campus and surrounding area. Keep an eye out on for the official CfP, to be released in October of 2018. 


Call for Applications: Editors

The Publications Committee of the International Studies Association (ISA) and the Executive Committee will make a recommendation to the ISA Governing Council regarding the assignment of editorial duties for Journal of Global Security Studies (, International Studies Perspectives ( and Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies ( at the 2019 annual meeting in Toronto. The individual or team selected to serve as editor(s) of JoGSS will hold that position for a five-year term January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2024. There will also be some transitional duties during late 2019. Proposals received no later than September 15, 2018 are assured most thorough consideration. The Publications Committee must forward its recommendations to the ISA Executive Committee by November 30, 2018.

Convention Updates

Getting ready for #ISA2019!

In anticipation of the preliminary program release late this month, we're delighted to share a few highlights from our last ISA Convention. Join us as we celebrate the work of our colleagues (international studies, digital media, and everywhere in between) and get excited about Toronto!


Career Courses

We are pleased to announce that the application process to take part in ISA's 2019 Career Courses will open with the release of the program late this month. Career Course participation is on a first come, first served basis and is an elective "add on" during the 2019 Annual Convention registration process. These courses always elicit more interest than space available, so we encourage you to register for a course as soon as you are able. Affiliate Reservations Site Open for Toronto Meetings and Receptions

Are you a sponsor, publisher, advertiser or other group wishing to connect with approximately 6500 attendees at the ISA Annual Convention in Toronto next March?  The website to apply for meeting or reception space is now open.  Please be sure to read the policies and procedures before completing your application.  Space is very limited, so reserve soon!  There are nominal meeting room rental fees payable to ISA upon confirmation of your reservation.  The deadline to reserve space in order to be listed in the printed convention program is December 1, 2018.  Questions?  Contact Jeanne White  ( .  Follow this link to apply, and select the box on the lower left "For Affiliates"


Call for Memorabilia: 60th Anniversary of ISA!

Please send any electronic photos, memories, or historical documentation on the creation of Committees, Sections, Caucuses, etc to If you are willing to send any hard copy items, please put your name/address on the back so they can be returned after the conclusion of Toronto 2019. We are particularly interested in Annual Convention programs, specifically from the years 1973, 1972, 1980, 1969, 1967, 1966, 1965, 1964, 1963, 1962, 1961, 1960, 1959 and 1958. The first annual International Studies Association Innovative Pedagogy Conference (ISA-IPC) will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, in St. Louis, MO, in conjunction with the ISA Midwest meeting. This new ISA initiative marks the beginning of a series of programs to be held in conjunction with regional conferences around the United States, and beyond.

Call for Nominations: Lynne Rienner Publishers Global South Travel Grant

The Peace Studies Section of ISA and Lynne Rienner Publishers invite nominations for the first annual Peace Studies Section – Lynne Rienner Publishers Global South Travel Grant. This competitive grant will be awarded to a Peace Studies Section member who is currently working at an institution located in the Global South1 who has had a paper accepted for the 2019 ISA Convention in Toronto and requires supplemental funds to attend. The deadline is October 1, 2018.

Call for Nominations: GSCIS Distinguished Scholar Award

The Global South Caucus Distinguished Scholar Award is given annually in recognition of the recipient’s exceptional and sustained contribution to global South international studies, as defined within the context of the ISA and reflected in the scholar’s teaching, published work, and policy contributions. The deadline to submit nominations for the 2018/2019 GSCIS Distinguished Scholar Award is October 10, 2018

Deadline Extension: ENMISA Outstanding Paper Award

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2018/2019 ENMISA Outstanding Paper Award has been extended to October 15, 2018. The committee welcomes ISA conference papers from any discipline advancing our understanding of ethnicity, nationalism and/or migration. The nominated papers should not be published at the time of the nomination.
