Association News

Nominating Committee Report

After careful review of nominees and careful deliberations, the International Studies Association Nominating Committee (Birol Yesilada [chair], Sabine Carey, Tricia Lynne Sullivan, Kelly M. Kadera, Burcu Savun, Hendrik Spruyt, Galia Press-Barnathan, Kamal Sadiq, and Benjamin O. Fordham) agreed on a single slate of candidates for ISA Officers:

  • President: Cameron Thies (Arizona State University)
  • Vice President: Navnita C. Behera (University of Delhi)
  • Vice President: John Ikenberry (Princeton University)
  • Vice President: Laura Shepherd (UNSW)

We also selected nominees for at-large representatives to the governing council from outside the recognized ISA regions. Our charge is to forward five candidates for three positions. We recommend the following candidates:

  • Soumita Basu (South Asian University)
  • Halvard Buhaug (PRIO)
  • Sinem Akgul-Acikmese (Kadir Has University)
  • Jorge A. Schiavon (Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas)
  • Imad Mansour (Qatar University)

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Call For Applications: Editor(s), ISQ

The Publications Committee of the International Studies Association and the Executive Committee will make a recommendation to the ISA Governing Council regarding the assignment of editorial duties for International Studies Quarterly at the 2018 annual meeting in San Francisco. The deadline to submit has been extended to September 15, 2017.

International studies scholarship expands and deepens apace as the results of our research appear in the form of books, journal articles, and other media. This proliferation of scholarly literature poses a high bar to entry for students and new scholars, as well as to established scholars seeking to explore a new topic.

FLACSO Quito 2018: Call for Proposals

ISA is pleased to announce the FLACSO-ISA Joint International Conference 2018, Quito. The joint FLACSO-ISA Conference is scheduled for July 25th - 27th, 2018 at FLACSO-Ecuador in Quito. Paper, panel and roundtable submissions related to all areas of international studies and world politics are welcome. Deadline to register is December 15, 2017

ISA Regions, Sections and affiliate groups are invited to host a workshop, business meeting or reception during the ISA 2018 Annual Convention. All events will be held at either Hilton San Francisco Union Square or the Parc 55. Meeting space is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone in need of reserving meeting room space or catering can now do so through our convention home page under the section "For Affiliates."

ISA-UNAI: Talking Human Security in an Uncertain Time

This past July, ISA-UNAI held a workshop at the UN headquarters in New York. This workshop focused on the topics of peacekeeping, human rights, human security, and conflict-related sexual violence to explore pressing challenges in effective policy making.

The ISSS is dedicated to enhancing knowledge and understanding about a wide range of international security issues including war and peace, military effectiveness, civil-military relations, alliances and security institutions, terrorism, intervention, peacekeeping, and the political economy of violence, among others. We welcome a wide range of methodologies, disciplines and subject matter and seeks to encourage and recognize exceptional scholarship on security issues.
