ISA at UNAI: Talking Human Security in an Uncertain Time

In the 21st century, a comprehensive approach to security problems requires willingness to understand and respond to the security problems that individuals face. Moreover, as ISA and United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) fully understand, dialogue between scholars and decision-makers is key to achieving progress toward understanding immediate and long-term threats to individuals, states, and the international community. Civil society, state leaders, international organizations, and scholars are still trying to reach a consensus on the meaning of human security writ large, the most useful metrics for tracking and understanding problems such as hunger and violence against civilians, and the best practices for mitigating violent threats and chronic needs.



Call for Submissions: Gerner Grant for Professional Development

The Women's Caucus for International Studies (WCIS) invites nominations for the Deborah "Misty" Gerner Grant for Professional Development, sponsored by Lynne Rienner Publishers. Deborah Gerner (1956-2006) was a much-loved and inspirational scholar who worked extensively on contributing to conflict resolution and peace in the Middle East. She was also a great advocate for women scholars in the international relations discipline. Funds from this grant may be used to support any legitimate professional development identified by the candidate. Some examples of possible uses include the following: (a) Travel to a professional meeting, (b) travel to conduct interviews, work with a colleague on a collaborative project, or field research, (c) purchase of databases, software, books, or other materials needed for research, or (d) participation in an appropriate pedagogy workshop or institute. Please note that these are just examples, and other documented professional development needs will be considered. 



Call for Nominations: Susan Northcutt Award

The Women's Caucus for International Studies (WCIS) invites nominations for the Susan (Stoudinger) Northcutt Award. The award recognizes a person who actively works towards recruiting and advancing women and other minorities in the profession, and whose spirit is inclusive, generous and conscientious. While also, acknowledging someone who has made significant contributions through service and competence to the field of international studies and to the International Studies Association. 



IETHICS Francis Harbour grad student paper award - deadline extended

We are soliciting nominations for the annual Frances V. Harbour Award for the best paper presented by a graduate student at the 2017 Baltimore ISA conference in a panel sponsored by the International Ethics section.



Deadline extended for 2017 ISA-South Annual Meeting

The deadline for submitting paper, panel, or roundtable proposals for the 2017 ISA-South meeting is extended to July 28. The call for papers and other details can be found at

ISA is pleased to announce the FLACSO-ISA Joint International Conference 2018, Quito. The joint FLACSO-ISA Conference is scheduled for July 25th - 27th, 2018 at FLACSO-Ecuador in Quito.

Paper, panel and roundtable submissions related to all areas of international studies and world politics are welcome. Particularly welcome are submissions related to our 2018 conference theme, "Power Reconfigurations: Regional and Global Responses in an Age of Uncertainty / Reconfiguraciones de Poder: Respuestas Regionales y Globales en Tiempos de Incertidumbre". Proposal submissions open immediately.
