SECOND EMERGING LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN SCHOLAR FORUM. APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The Second Emerging Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Scholar Forum is a collaborative training and networking program designed for emerging (Ph.D. students and post-docs) and early career (junior faculty) scholars from the LAC region. Established LAC scholars (and senior scholars residing outside the region but whose work is directly related to Latin America and the Caribbean) will act as facilitators throughout a one-day forum, to be held the day before the 2023 ISA annual convention in Montreal, on March 14, 2023.
Description of the Forum
The forum will be divided into two main parts: (1) an initial plenary session devoted to issues such as academic (and other) careers, publishing and networking within the field of IR, both regionally and globally; and (2) break-out sessions that will place small groups of emerging and early career LAC scholars with a senior International Relations scholar. The junior scholars and their senior scholar facilitator will be grouped together according to their paper topics, which will focus on themes such as IR theory, foreign policy, security and international political economy. The junior scholars will make brief presentations of their work, followed by feedback from the other participants, including the senior facilitator.
ISA LAC will publish relevant insights from junior and senior scholar attendees on its social networks about their participation in the forum. Participants will also be encouraged to polish and submit the papers presented at the forum to appropriate publication venues and to the LAC early career scholar award.
Participation
Interested participants apply for the forum, and members of the LAC Region Executive Committee evaluate these applications and identifies a maximum of 15 emerging scholars to take part. To be eligible, all participants must be ISA members and registered for the 2023 ISA annual convention in Montreal. Applications should be submitted by November 15, 2022. All applicants will receive notification as to whether they have been accepted to the forum by December 1, 2022. Limited funding is available to subsidize participants’ expenses.
