ISA-West 2021 Conference - Submissions Open

The International Studies Association West region is pleased to announce the call for proposals for our 2021 annual conference to take place on September 23-25, 2021. The deadline for submission of the proposals is May 10, 2021.

ISA-West invites papers, panels, and roundtable proposals on any subject related to international studies, broadly defined. We strongly encourage paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on subjects related to this year’s conference theme: Crises and Routine: Opportunities and Challenges in International Affairs. We are interested in projects that explore the role of crisis and routine in international politics, in the academy, and our pedagogies. Scholarly, educational, policy, and professional development projects that address crises, routine, challenges, and opportunities in all aspects of international affairs are welcome. The full call for proposals can be accessed here: https://www.isanet.org/Conferences/West2021/Call.

Questions about submissions should be sent to the program chair, Dr. Luba Levin-Banchik, California State University, San Bernardino at ISAWest2021@isanet.org.

This year ISA West takes place once again amid the developing global health crisis. While we anticipate a return to our regular conference meeting place in Pasadena CA, we also prepare for the possibility of having the conference online, or for a potential combination of both in-person and online conference modalities. When submitting your proposal, we ask you to identify your preferences for the online, in-person, or hybrid presentation and attendance. We will continue offering limited travel grants for attending the conference in Pasadena, CA. International relations scholars outside the ISA-West region or outside the USA, and who are unable to travel to Pasadena in September, are welcome to apply and identify online option as conference preference.

2021 ISA West Emerging Scholar Forum

ISA-West will continue its Emerging Scholars Forum (ESF). Graduate students and junior faculty are encouraged to identify their preference to be considered for the ESF when submitting paper proposals for the program. The selection process is competitive. Similar to ISA's Junior Scholar Symposium, this is a valuable opportunity to receive in-depth feedback from a senior scholar at a regional conference.

2021 ISA West Travel Grant Proposals

ISA West will continue offering limited grants for attending ISA West conference in Pasadena. To apply for a Travel Grant, please submit a short outline of your current funding sources, your university affiliation, the location you will be traveling from along with your proposed abstract and paper title to Nola Haynes, Travel Grants Chair at ebonihay@usc.edu. Preference will be given to members of the ISA-West region. Travel Award Application Deadline: April 14th, 2021.

ISA West Best Paper Award

ISA West continues to accept nominations for the Best Paper Award (Undergraduate, Graduate, and Faculty) for the papers presented during ISA West 2020 conference. Presenters may nominate themselves, and panel chairs and discussants may also nominate candidates. Award recipients must be ISA members. To apply, submit the paper and nomination letter to Douglas Becker, Paper Awards Chair, at dfbecker@usc.edu. In your application, indicate if the paper is submitted for an Undergraduate, Graduate, or Faculty Award.

How will we know whether our proposal has been accepted or not?
