Call for Applications

Call for Applications: ISA Special Project Grants

Each year, ISA HQ receives a variety of proposals that ask for project and financial support that do not fall under Research Workshop or Travel grants mechanisms. In 2017, the Governing Council renewed the Special Projects Grant program, which provides a funding mechanism for these alternative proposals from members and sections/regions/caucuses. To be considered, projects must benefit a group of ISA members (i.e., they can't only go to one institution or a single member or to non-ISA members), and are not eligible for funding by an existing funding mechanism within ISA.
Basic Program Parameters:
  • All proposals must focus on programming in the context of ISA activities and promise to provide direct benefit to some group of ISA members.
  • All proposers must be ISA members.
  • This program will not fund research projects, programs restricted to a proposer's home institution, or projects that fall under existing ISA programs (e.g., the workshop grants program or the travel grants program).
ISA is pleased to solicit submissions for the 2019-2020 funding cycle. The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2019

Call for Proposals: ISA 2020 Innovative Panels

If you're interested in submitting a proposal for an Innovative Panel please note that the deadline is fast approaching: May 15th.
Reminder: Innovative panels are for anyone thinking in creative ways beyond a regular panel — we can set the room up creatively to facilitate the discussion, for example.
Proposers can request the room to be set up creatively to facilitate the discussion and can ask for additional technological specifications, including Projector and A/V equipment to view this short film, Internet access, lapel microphone, etc. In the past, these have involved simulations, "town-hall" style events, mock trial, and many other forms of interaction.

Call for Proposals: ISA 2020 "In Other Words" Roundtables

In keeping with one of the main conclusions of the ISA-Global South Caucus Dialogue, the “In Other Words” Roundtables were launched at the 2018 San Francisco convention.  Given the success of this pilot project, whose main goal is to achieve greater linguistic inclusiveness in reflection of the diversity of the ISA, we are happy to announce the call for submissions for Honolulu 2020. The deadline for "In Other Words" submissions is June 1, 2019.
The theme for next year’s ISA convention, “Multiple Identities and Scholarship in Global IR: One Profession, Many Voices”, offers an interesting opportunity to consider how collaborative approaches to global problems can be achieved without sacrificing linguistic diversity, and what the most effective avenues may be available for communicating and sharing knowledge across regional and linguistic divides.
We welcome proposals for roundtables conducted in Spanish, French, Arabic or Mandarin that address these issues. Proposals should be submitted in both English and the chosen language, and should include: title, abstract, three tags, and the names, email addresses and institutional affiliations of participations (which should include a chair and between 6 and 7 panelists). Although the roundtables themselves will be conducted in one of the four targeted languages, the audience will be free to ask questions or comment in English.
