SAVE THE DATE! “ISA at UNAI” CELEBRATES THE UN AND SOUTH-SOUTH COOPERATION FOR DEVELOPMENT

On Thursday, 25 April, the ISA and the United Nations will sponsor an afternoon of events around the topic of “South-South Cooperation for Development.” This will be part of the ongoing “ISA at UNAI” program to celebrate the upcoming 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. All events are free and open to the public.

From about 12:30-2:00pm (the exact timing might be revised), the ISA will host a briefing by officials of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, to discuss the results of the Second High-Level Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40), which will be held in Buenos Aires in late March. The location of this briefing is also still pending, but it will be near the United Nations Headquarters in New York. ISA experts will also be on hand to discuss this important conference and its results.

From 3:00-5:30pm, the ISA and UN Academic Impact (UNAI) will co-host a public forum in UN Headquarters on “South-South cooperation and the UN Development System: Complement, competitor, role model, or threat?” ISA participants will include:

  • Emel Parlar Dal, Marmara University
  • Samiratou Dipama, Marmara University
  • Paulo Esteves, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio di Janeiro
  • Silke Weinlich, German Development Institute

The UN representation is still to be announced. That information, as well as details about both events, will be updated as soon as possible.

Feel free to mark this on your calendars now! If you are interested in attending, and/or bringing students to these meetings, please contact Joel E. Oestreich, <jeo25@drexel.edu> , (+1)(215) 620-7501, for more information. ISA will keep you informed as the program develops. Faculty are welcome to bring students to one or both events as part of their educational experience.

Please note that you will be required to pre-register for the event inside UN Headquarters; if you provide your name to Joel Oestreich, he will be sure you receive a link for pre-registration when that portal is opened.
