Call for Nominations - ISA REL Best Book Award

ISA's Religion and IR Section (REL) invites nominations for their Best Book Award. The award recognizes a book that excels in originality, significance and rigor in the broadly defined field of Religion and IR. The recipient will receive a recognition plaque and a one-year membership in the section.

General Information

Recipients must meet the Following Criteria

1.     Recipients must be a current member of ISA

2.     Eligible books must be original works and may be single- or multi-authored. Edited collections, textbooks and translations are not eligible. 

3.     Eligible books must have been published within the two-year period preceding the year of the competition. For example, books eligible for the 2016 prize must have been published in either 2014 or 2015. A book shall be considered “published” in the year stated in the book itself. The subject matter of the book must fall into the broadly defined category of religion and IR. 

Selection Process

  • Questions regarding the scope of the subject will be resolved by the sole discretion of the Awards Committee.

Apply For This Award

  • A book may be nominated to the Award Committee by any person. 
  • However, to be considered for the award, the nominator, author(s), or publisher must send a copy directly to each member of the Awards Committee. 
  • Books must be received by September 1st of the year preceding the Convention to be considered. For example, a nomination for the 2016 book prize must be received by September 1st, 2015. 
  • The Awards Committee may extend the deadline at its discretion. Books nominated will not be returned. Decisions of the Awards Committee are final.
