Call for Nominations - HR Section Awards

The Human Rights Section of ISA seeks nominations for Best Paper and Best Graduate Student Paper from the 2015 ISA Conference, as well as Best Book and Distinguished Scholar. These awards will be presented at the 2016 ISA Convention in Atlanta. Nominations will close on June 15, 2015.

Below are descriptions of each award and contact information for nominations.


Best Paper Award — 2015
 

The “Best Paper” Award is given to the author(s) of the best paper presented at the ISA Annual Convention by a faculty member (regardless of academic rank) or human rights professional/activist.

The Award is accompanied by a one-year paid membership of ISA and Human Rights Section dues (see below). Author(s) of the paper for which the award is given are also invited to submit the paper to the Journal of Human Rights for expedited review and consideration for publication.

Eligibility and Award Criteria

·      Papers must have been presented on a panel sponsored or co-sponsored by the Human Rights Section.

·      Recipients must be members of ISA and of the Human Rights Section at the time the award is presented at the ISA Annual Meeting. If the recipient is not a member of ISA and/or the Human Rights Section at the time the award is offered, the recipient may choose to apply the membership benefit of the award prior to presentation at the annual meeting. Recipients who are already members at the time the award is offered will be able to apply the Membership benefit the following year.

 

Nomination Information

·      Nominated papers must be uploaded to the ISA Conference Paper archive

·      Nominations may be made by audience Panel Chairs, Discussants, or other panelists.

·      Self-nominations are welcome

·    Nominations should be directed to Anthony Tirado-Chase (achase@oxy.edu) no later than June 15th.


Steven C. Poe Graduate Student Paper Award  2015 

 

The Steven C. Poe Graduate Student Paper Award is given to the author of the best paper presented at the ISA Annual Convention by a graduate student.

The Award is accompanied by a one-year paid membership of ISA and Human Rights Section dues (see below). The author of the paper for which the award is given is also invited to submit the paper to the Journal of Human Rights for expedited review and consideration for publication.


Eligibility and Award Criteria

·      Papers must be of original research in the field of human rights. Eligible papers may come from panels or poster sessions sponsored by any organized Section, or sponsored under the Conference Theme.

·      Recipients must be members of ISA and of the Human Rights Section at the time the award is presented at the ISA Annual Meeting. If the recipient is not a member of ISA and/or the Human Rights Section at the time the award is offered, the recipient may choose to apply the membership benefit of the award prior to presentation at the annual meeting. Recipients who are already members at the time the award is offered will be able to apply the Membership benefit the following year.

Best Book Award — 2015 

 

The Human Rights Section’s Best Book Award recognizes an outstanding monograph in the field of human rights published within the past two years.

The Award is accompanied by a one-year paid membership of ISA and Human Rights Section dues (see below).

 

Eligibility and Award Criteria

·      Books published during the two-year period prior to the nomination deadline are eligible for nomination (2013 - 2015).

·      Recipients of the award must be members of ISA and of the Human Rights Section at the time the award is presented at the ISA Annual Meeting. If the recipient is not a member of ISA and/or the Human Rights Section at the time the award is offered, the recipient may choose to apply the membership benefit of the award prior to presentation at the annual meeting. Recipients who are already members at the time the award is offered will be able to apply the Membership benefit the following year.

 

Nomination Information

·      Nominations by any member of the Human Rights Section are welcome

·      Nominations by publishers not endorsed by a Section member will not be accepted

·      Self-nominations are welcome

·      Those nominating a book should arrange with the publisher to have three copies of the book sent to the Chair of the Best Book Award Committee (see below)

·     Nominations should be directed to Daniel Whelan (whelan@hendrix.edu) no later than June 15. Nominated books must be received by July 1.


Distinguished Scholar Award  2015 

 

The Human Rights Section’s Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes an individual whose lifetime achievements in scholarship, teaching, and mentoring have made a significant impact on the field of human rights.

The Award is accompanied by a one-year paid membership of ISA and Human Rights Section dues (see below).

 

Eligibility and Award Criteria

·      Any human rights scholar is eligible

·      Recipients of the award must be members of ISA and of the Human Rights Section at the time the award is presented at the ISA Annual Meeting. If the recipient is not a member of ISA and/or the Human Rights Section at the time the award is offered, the recipient may choose to apply the membership benefit of the award prior to presentation at the annual meeting. Recipients who are already members at the time the award is offered will be able to apply the Membership benefit the following year.

 

Nomination Information

·      Nominations by any member of the Human Rights Section are welcome

·      Nominations should include a statement outlining the scope of the nominee’s achievements in research and scholarship, teaching, and/or mentoring over the course of their career.

·      Nominations should also include the nominee’s most recent CV.

·      Nominations should be directed via email to Ruti Teitel (teitelruti@aol.com) no later than June 15.
