The Society for Women in International Political Economy (SWIPE) Committee of the International Political Economy Section of the International Studies Association (ISA) welcomes your nominations for the 2016 SWIPE Mentor Award.

The SWIPE Mentor Award pays tribute to women and men who have invested in the professional success of women in the International Political Economy (IPE) field. Originating in the early 1990s, SWIPE observed that many women in IPE lacked the close mentoring relationships their male counterparts enjoyed.  Research across disciplines has shown that mentoring can be key to higher publication and tenure rates, indicating the importance of mentoring in promoting more women to not only join but stay in the field of IPE.  The past recipients of the SWIPE Mentor Award have included scholars, an academic press editor, and deans.

As an international organization, the ISA encourages nominations from both inside and outside the USA. As the 2012-2013 SWIPE Committee noted, we recognize that conditions for women still vary considerably from country to country.

Nominations, including self-nominations, must include the nominee’s current C.V. and a nomination letter of no more than one-page.  A typical nomination letter or letter of support describes how the nominee has mentored women in IPE with specific examples of how such mentorship has impacted women's careers. Letters should intend to assist the committee in visualizing the impact of the nominee's efforts to support women in IPE.

Nominations may come from any member of ISA and should be sent by e-mail to the current chair of the selection committee, Ayse Kaya –  The deadline for nominations is May 1the committee will make its selection no later than June 1.

A special roundtable honoring the recipient will be held at the ISA’s Annual Convention as a part of the regular program. Protégés, colleagues, the selection committee chair, and others will participate on the roundtable.  The award also includes a plaque, which will be presented at the Convention.
