About our Sections

Sections are thematic sub-units of ISA organized around specific topics and research interests in international studies. Members of ISA are welcome to join any Sections they would like.

Section Governance

Sections each have their own charters defining their structure and purpose. ISA just has a few basic guidelines for sections:

  • Sections need to keep at least 100 members.
  • Section chairs can only serve up to five consecutive years.
  • Sections must submit yearly reports to the Governing Council.
  • Section finances and contracts must go through ISA-HQ

The International Studies Association

Representing over 100 countries, ISA has more than 6,500 members worldwide and is the most respected and widely known scholarly association in this field. Endeavoring to create communities of scholars dedicated to international studies, ISA is divided into 7 geographic subdivisions of ISA (Regions), 29 thematic groups (Sections) and 4 Caucuses which provide opportunities to exchange ideas and research with local colleagues and within specific subject areas.
