In addition to its normal program activities, ISA has a number of special events on our program that add variety and new opportunities for our participants.

"In Other Words" Roundtables: This series seeks to explore the role of the English language in governing academic practice, by facilitating or impeding communication, and by determining academic proficiency and legitimacy within the field of International Studies. The goals of this program are to achieve (a) greater linguistic inclusiveness that reflects the diversity of International Studies, (b) to consider how collaborative approaches to global problems can be achieved without sacrificing linguistic diversity, and (c) to expand on what effective avenues may be available for communicating and sharing knowledge across regional and linguistic divides.

Jargon Jumble: Participants are challenged to use only the most common 1000 English words to describe their research. Submissions are reviewed by the ISA Executive Committee. The final competitors will participate in a roundtable at the Annual Convention to discuss their work and the challenges of effective professional communication.

Structuring Inclusion: This series aims to challenge systemic exclusion through the articulation of new practices, approaches, cultures, and institutional parameters that liberate ISA in particular, and scholarship in general. Drawing from expertise across research, governance, teaching, and decision-making, we seek proposals for full panels and roundtables that highlight the work that is being done to increase the visibility and authority of scholars from diverse experiences and positions, disentangling scholarship from static modes of thought and behaviors that are closed and privileged.

Career Courses: Course proposals should be submitted by the instructor or team planning on teaching the course. In September, ISA will open the courses for special registration. There is a cost of $25 per student and instructors will be given a stipend for their work teaching the course.
