While the Program Chairs tried to place panels during times that would be convenient for all participants, it was sometimes difficult to find times that worked well for everyone, given the global nature of our membership. While no guarantees can be made, please contact the ISA 2021 Program Chairs at if you have any scheduling requests after the program is released.

Great question! Non-attending co-authors should contact the ISA 2021 Program Chairs at to make sure that their name remains on the program.

That's okay! Our system will allow you to identify which program placements you are able to fulfill and which you need to withdraw from. You can confirm your participation here.

If you find that you need to withdraw from the ISA 2021 Convention program, please be sure to do so as soon as possible, so that the Program Chairs will have time to fill the vacancy created on the program.

We handle paper uploads directly through our website at You will find the option to upload your paper on your participation page - on the right hand side of the screen. Please note that we only accept PDF files and that they can be no more than 10MB in size.

ISA policy requires a PDF copy of each paper presented at the Convention to be uploaded to the archive. To give discussants, chairs, and fellow panelists time to read, we ask that participants upload papers by March 30th, 2021.

we encourage you to contact your fellow panelists and either email them a copy of the paper directly, or tell them when you have uploaded it to the archive. There, you will see an "Email Participants" option that will create a comma-separated list of the email addresses of participants on your panel.

You can find more information about the responsibilities of a panel/roundtable chair here. In a virtual setting, we would also suggest preparing a few questions to help facilitate a discussion, as sometimes a virtual environment needs a few moments of time before audience members have a chance to type in their questions.

In a virtual setting, we would also suggest preparing a few questions to help facilitate a discussion, as sometimes a virtual environment needs a few moments of time before audience members have a chance to type in their questions.

We recognize that some participants may wish to pre-record their presentations for a variety of reasons (e.g. to avoid any internet connection issues, personal concerns about potential technical problems or simply for the comfort of presenting in a more controlled environment). With this in mind, ISA must also work to balance the need for active and engaging intellectual dialogue. Thus, ISA remains committed to providing opportunities for the live exchange of ideas during the Annual Convention and its other meetings. This type of give-and-take in panels and roundtables is a cornerstone of the vitality of the ISA community.

As a result, pre-recorded presentations produced and presented by the author(s) are acceptable on the condition that the author is indeed present during the scheduled panel or roundtable to play their recordings and then actively participate in the live Q&A portion. Please note that the panel or roundtable chair, discussants, and/or fellow panelists are not authorized to play the pre-recorded presentation in an author’s absence. The author(s) must be in attendance.

The Program Chairs and the Section Program Chairs did a great job in making sure that all panels have a chair and discussants. However, some participants assigned to these roles might not show up for any reasons. If your panel does not have a chair, we recommend that the discussant take on this role as well, monitor time limits, and moderate the chat and audience questions. If the discussant does not show up, the other discussant can offer comments on all papers or the chair can step in that role. In the rare cases where both the chair and the discussant are missing, we recommend that participants proceed with their presentations and do their best to provide feedback to each other.

The ISA 2021 Program Chairs will be actively working to fill any program vacancies ahead of the Convention. If you have any concerns about your panel, please contact the ISA 2021 Program Chairs at

Poster presentations will take the form of an asynchronous visual presentation by the author(s) throughout the Convention and will also have a prearranged time slot for a separate live interaction between presenters and other participants. Additionally, every poster will be assigned a discussant. Presenters will utilize our new virtual poster session technology to craft and share their posters and will be able to embed text, images, audio, video, and narration into their posters. More information about how to submit your poster will be provided as we get closer to the convention.
