Tours for Conference Participants

In additional to our panels, we have identified potential tours for conference participants.

Please note that these tours are OPTIONAL and all reservations should be made by participants.

  • Tour within Accra including some historic and ceremonial sights, the Shai Hills Reserve (which has a monkey sanctuary).
  • Tour outside Accra to Cape Coast Castle. This will include stops along the routes travelled by the Slaves through to the Cape Coast Castles where they were eventually put on ships to North America.

If you're interested in any of these tours, be sure to make your reservations through the tour company's website. The tour company will also be on-site during the conference to register participants. Additional contact information regarding these tours will be available soon. 

Getting Around

From the Airport

Participants can use Uber or Taxify, the ride-sharing application, private taxis or the airport taxis. For the airport taxis, the fare depends on the driver but the current average cost is around 50 Ghana cedis. Uber and Taxify have an average cost of 30 Ghana cedis.

Around Town

Uber and Taxify are available but their coverage does not extend beyond Greater Accra region. There are also taxis available, but the fare depends on the driver and the distance to the destination.

Uber and Taxify, take cash as well as electronic forms of payment. The local taxis only take cash as a form of payment.

Need a Visa?

You can find out if you need a visa to visit Ghana, as well as details on the expected time and process, using Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Visa Information

If you require a letter of invitation to support a visa application, please be sure to provide sufficient lead time for the processing of the letter. The organizers request that these participants register early. A letter of guarantee will be sent from the conference organizers upon providing a receipt of the paid conference registration fee and of a hotel accommodation in Accra.

Endeavoring to create communities of scholars dedicated to international studies, ISA is divided into 7 geographic subdivisions of ISA (Regions), 29 thematic groups (Sections) and 4 Caucuses which provide opportunities to exchange ideas and research with local colleagues and within specific subject areas.
