Annual Conference
4-6 November 2010
Holiday Inn Inner Harbor
Baltimore, MD USA
Submission deadline: 4 June 2010
The annual conference of the International Studies Association-Northeast (ISA-NE) will be held 4-6 November 2010 at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD.
ISA-NE invites paper and panel proposals on any subject related to international studies, broadly defined. Topics might include (but are not limited to) international relations theory, international law and organizations, foreign policy, globalization, human rights, international development, conflict resolution, military/strategic studies, the environment, feminist theory/gender studies, and international political economy. ISA-NE expressly welcomes research on critical constructivism, post-structuralism, and postmodernism and/or undertaken through these lenses.
We also encourage paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on subjects related to this year’s conference theme, Pluralism, Pragmatism, and the Practice Turn in IR. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- How do theories of world politics inform the conduct of politics and policy?
- What should be the response of IR scholars to the diversity of cultural and religious traditions throughout the globe, and to the diversity of traditions in inquiry within the field of IR itself?
- Does studying practice make a difference? What kinds of practices are operative in world politics?
- How should one teach IR amidst all of the diversity of the globe and the field? Is there a distinctive pedagogy of pluralism, or a pragmatic pedagogy of practice?
Conference participation is open to all scholars and graduate students. We especially encourage proposals from varied disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives. We seek to showcase the work of advanced graduate students and junior as well as senior scholars, and we welcome innovative ideas about the format, structure, and content of conference sessions.
Papers delivered at ISA-NE are eligible for consideration for the Fred Hartmann Award (graduate students/ABD) or the Lee Bennett Award (scholars who have completed their Ph.D. degrees). Graduate students whose papers are accepted for presentation and who do not receive support from their departments are eligible to apply for travel support from ISA-NE.
Proposals
Panel, roundtable, and individual paper proposals can be submitted via the MyISA login page; on the main page for the ISA-NE conference, click the “My Submissions” link to submit a proposal. Although you will need to create a myISA account if you do not already have one in order to access the system, you do not need to already be a member of the International Studies Association in order to do so. Proposals will be accepted beginning 15 March 2010.
Deadline for paper/panel submissions is Friday, 4 June 2010. Questions about potential submissions and participation should be sent by e-mail to the Program Chair, Patrick Thaddeus Jackson <ptjack@american.edu>. Scholars willing to serve as panel chairs/discussants should use the myISA system to signal their willingness and to provide information on their areas of expertise.
