The Human Rights Section of the International Studies Association is pleased to invite nominations for two paper awards, for papers delivered at the 2009 convention in New York. If you were in attendance at a panel, or chaired or acted as a discussant for a panel, and heard a paper you wish to nominate, please do so through the contacts below. Self-nominations are also invited. Please note that papers must have been presented on a panel sponsored or co-sponsored by the Human Rights Section, as indicated in the convention program.
ABOUT THE AWARD
- There are two categories of award: the Stephen C. Poe best graduate student paper award, and the best faculty/practitioner paper award.
- Nominations: Please direct nominations to the following:
- Papers that have not been uploaded to the ISA's 2010 paper archive by [DATE] will not be considered for an award.
- The section is grateful to the Journal of Human Rights for its sponsorship of both awards.
- Application Deadline: DATE for paper nominations by authors, panel chairs and discussants, or others.

- 2009 Stephen C. Poe Best Graduate Student Paper Award: Joel Pruce Ph.D. Candidate (ABD) Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver
Steven C. Poe Graduate Student Paper Award: The winner of the Steven C. Poe Graduate Student Paper Award for the best paper presented at the 2009 ISA Convention is Joel Pruce (University of Denver) for his paper entitled “Outlaws, Rogues, and Robin Hoods in the Delivery of Human Rights Goods?.”
Faculty/Professional Best Paper Award: Kathleen Staudt (University of Texas at El Paso) won the Faculty/Professional Best Paper Award for her paper entitled “Explaining the Persistence of Femicide Amid Transnational Activist Networks: Where Did Human Rights Theory Go Wrong?”
