ISSS AWARD DESCRIPTIONS
Distinguished Scholar in International Security Studies Award
Distinguished Scholar in International Security Studies
The Distinguished Scholar Award is given for life achievement in International Security Studies. Typically, nominees will have made major contributions to scholarship in the field both via their own research and writing and their mentorship of others. The nomination may come from any member of the International Security Studies Section. Nominations should be accompanied by a short letter of justification (not more than 1 page) and the nominee’s CV. Candidates nominated in previous years are considered still to be in contention, and do not need to be re-nominated. Prior recipients include Robert Art, Richard Betts, Lawrence Freedman, Samuel Huntington, Robert Jervis, John Mearsheimer, Richard Rosecrance, Thomas Schelling, Jack Snyder, and Kenneth Waltz.
The award recipient will be honored at a special panel at the ISA conference in Toronto in March 2014. The award includes a plaque and a $500 award which will be distributed at a reception following the panel. The nomination may be sent to the chair of the committee.

Best Book Award
The ISSS Annual Best Book Award recognizes the book on any aspect of security studies that excels in originality, significance, and rigor, published during the 2012 calendar year. Please send a copy of the nominated book to each of the three committee members along with a short (1 page maximum) justification for the nomination. The award comes with a plaque presented at the ISA annual meeting, and a $500 award.

Best Graduate Student Paper Competition
Best Graduate Student Paper: Competition Nominations are being accepted for the ISSS best graduate student paper. Papers presented at the April 2013 ISA conference and the annual ISSS/ISAC conference are eligible for submission. Nominations (with an electronic copy of the paper) normally come from faculty supervisors and mentors as well as panel chairs or discussants at the above mentioned conferences and should include a one paragraph justification. The award includes a plaque and a $500 award, which will be distributed at a reception at the ISA conference in Toronto in March 2014. Please send your submissions to the selection committee chair.
