Section Re-Chartering Process

Every five years a Section must be re-chartered by the Governing Council at that year’s Annual ISA Meeting.  Failure to do so will result in the dissolution of the Section along with its assets and/or liabilities accruing to the ISA.

A general report consisting of the following items must be submitted to ISA Headquarters on January 1st of the year that the Section Charter is up for renewal:

  • An Annual Report of Section Activities
  • An Analysis of Section Membership
  • An Analysis of the Section Financial Base
  • A Copy of the Section Charter*
  • A List of Section Leadership and Terms of Office
  • A “Memorandum to Re-Charter a Section” form

Once all materials are submitted to ISA Headquarters (via Andrea Gerlak), they are presented to the Governing Council for renewal by the ISA Executive Director. Electronic submission of materials is preferred and can be sent to isa@isanet.org. Section Chairs are encouraged to submit re-chartering materials a month in advance to avoid conflicts with missing materials and holiday closures.

*PDF versions of Section Charters are maintained by ISA HQ at http://www.isanet.org/sections.  Many sections have placed archived Word versions of Section Charters (and previous re-chartering documents) with ISA HQ and are obtainable from Andrea Gerlak upon request, subject to availability.
