Overview of ISA Internet Services

ISA provides the following internet services for Regions (6) and Sections (23):

  • Website creation, hosting, and maintenance
  • Linking to independently hosted/maintained websites from the ISA website
  • Listserv creation and administration
  • Blog creation, hosting, and administration
  • E-mail distribution of announcements to Region/Section membership
  • E-Newsletter announcements sent to all ISA members
  • Award nomination and promotion
  • Social Networking (Facebook & Twitter)

Website Creation, Hosting & Maintenance
Although we ask that Regions and Sections maintain their own website, we recognize that in some cases it may not be practical for them to do so. ISA offers to assist Regions and Sections that do not have their own websites by creating, hosting and maintaining a website for them.  We are currently providing this complete service for 13 Sections and 1 Region (Asia-Pacific).  Probably the best example of our complete service is the International Ethics Section website featuring a webpage showcasing books published by their members. In addition, we are providing basic hosting service for one section, ENMISA, they designed and maintain their website and send us the HTML file for hosting on our campus server.

Linking to Independent Section/Region Websites
ISA links to independently administered Region and Section websites from our ISA website. At the present time, 10 Sections and 5 Regions administer their own website hosted on their own server.

Listserv Creation and Administration
ISA has created a listservs for two Sections (IO and ISSS) and continues to administer them, adding and moderating users as needed. We can create and administer listservs as needed using either our campus listserv service or the free ad-supported hosting service provided by Yahoo Groups.

Blog Creation, Hosting and Administration
ISA created a blog for the Women's Caucus in 2006 using the Blogger.com service with the understanding that the section would send information to be posted to the blog. This arrangement worked well until June 2007 (the date of the last post) and then the blog was superseded by direct email to Section members, the Section newsletter, and then ISA e-newsletter. We have the capability using our new Type Pad hosted service to create a blog (public or private) for any of our Regions and Sections that would want to make use of a blog format to promote discussion and build community among their members.  In addition, we use our primary ISA Blog to share Region and Section news. The blog has received 56,255 lifetime page views with an average 64.74 page views per day since April 11, 2007.

Direct E-Mail from ISA HQ to All Section/Region Members
All of our Regions and Sections have taken advantage of our offer to send announcements to their membership from ISA HQ. This service provides a quick and hassle-free means of keeping in touch with hundreds of members without fearing a deluge of replies to the personal e-mail account of the section chair or region president.

ISA E-Newsletter
The monthly ISA E-Newsletter provides a quick means of reaching the entire ISA membership with Section and Region news. All of our Regions and Sections have taken advantage of this service to share news of their events, awards, and calls for papers.

Award Nomination and Promotion
ISA will use our online resources to solicit nominations for your Region and Section awards and we will promote and acknowledge your award winners on our Awards website. Using our online resources we have been successful at raising the awareness and prestige value of all of our ISA awards.

Social Networks
ISA has recently entered the world of social networks and offers to share Region and Section news using our presence on the Facebook and Twitter social networks.
