Cooperating Organizations

Welcome Cooperating Organizations

Cooperating Organizations are a network of international studies groups accredited by ISA to promote contacts among specialists and practitioners and facilitate scientific and cultural exchange. ISA seeks to provide channels of communication between academics and policy-makers to promote a successful link between the production of knowledge and its utilization. Cooperating Organizations are invited to participate in ISA's activities, including the annual convention, and various international conferences and joint workshops. Cooperating Organizations are entitled to a quota of panels at our annual convention and our international conferences. Other benefits of cooperating status include reciprocity in web site promotion, publicity and announcements, and shared Internet resources, including the ISA e-mail list and web log. What are the benefits of Cooperating Organization Status?

Cooperating organizations are invited to participate in ISA's activities, including the annual convention (where they are entitled to a quota of panels), and various international conferences and joint workshops. Other benefits of cooperating status include reciprocity in web site promotion, publicity and announcements, and shared Internet resources, including the private ISA listserv and web log.

What criteria must organizations meet to become ISA Cooperating Organizations?

Cooperating organizations should meet the following criteria:

  • such organizations should be scholarly, professional organizations.
  • their purpose should reflect purposes similar to ISA, as identified by the ISA's constitution.
  • cooperation should be likely to lead to meaningful, reciprocal, and ongoing activities.

What is the application process?

Organizations interested in becoming an ISA Cooperating Organization should contact ISA HQ with the following information:

  • Please indicate that your association is in conformance with our three criteria for cooperative status.
  • Please provide a list of the key officers of your organization, along with their e-mail addresses and their mailing addresses, including the person who will be the primary contact for ISA.
  • If you have a website, please provide us with the address so that we may link to it from our list of Cooperating Organizations, as well as our list of Internet resources. Naturally, we request a reciprocal link exchange.

Once your information is received, it will be reviewed by the ISA Executive Committee, and you will be notified when your cooperative status is approved.

African Politics Conference Group (APCG)

The African Politics Conference Group promotes recognition within professional associations of the theoretical and methodological contributions to the discipline by political scientists whose research and professional interests center largely or in part upon sub-Saharan Africa.

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities. AAAS publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide.

American Political Science Association (APSA)

The American Political Science Association, founded in 1903, is the leading professional organization for the study for political science and serves more than 15,000 members in over 80 countries. With a range of programs and services for individuals, departments and institutions, APSA brings together political scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe in order to expand awareness and understanding of politics.

Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS)

ISA welcomes the Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS) as affiliated cooperating organization. Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS), formerly Chinese Scholars of Political Science and International Studies, is a non-profit, non-political organization for scholarly and professional activities. ACPS was founded in 1986 in the United States to promote academic exchange among Chinese scholars and American scholars of China studies. In 1995, the organization changed its name to Association of Chinese Political Studies, and since then the organization is for all who study Chinese politics. Currently the organization has over 400 members from various parts of the world. Eighty percent of them are male and 20% of them are female. ACPS publishes scholarly books, newsletters, and a refereed academic journal -- Journal of Chinese Political Science.

Association For Canadian Studies In The United States (ACSUS)

ACSUS coordinates programs and further research in Canadian studies and works closely with academics, business executives, and government officials in striving for an improved understanding of issues affecting the Canada-U.S. bilateral relationship. ACSUS also works as a liaison with regional Canadian studies associations as well as the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) in order to provide ACSUS members with a broad base of information, research and networking opportunities. ACSUS is now the largest organization of Canadian studies specialists in the world.

Association For Israel Studies/Israeli Studies Association (AIS)

The Association for Israel Studies is an international scholarly society devoted to the academic and professional study of Israel. The Association's membership is composed of scholars from all disciplines in the social sciences and many in the humanities.

Association of Korean Political Studies (AKPS)

The Association of Korean Political Studies (AKPS)  is a non-political and non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of scholarly exchange and academic inquiries among political scientists.

Atlantic Council of the United States

The Atlantic Council promotes constructive U.S. leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic community in meeting the international challenges of the 21st Century. The Council embodies a nonpartisan network of leaders who aim to bring ideas to power and to give power to ideas by:  stimulating dialogue and discussion about critical international issues with a view to enriching public debate and promoting consensus on appropriate responses in the Administration, the Congress, the corporate and nonprofit sectors, and the media in the United States and among leaders in Europe, Asia and the Americas; conducting educational and exchange programs for successor generations of U.S. leaders so that they will come to value U.S. international engagement and have the knowledge and understanding necessary to develop effective policies.

Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP)

The Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP) is an independent, non-university scientific research institute located in Vienna. OIIP initiates communication processes that enhance awareness of international political systems and promotes the identity of Austria. It helps to define the position of Austria in the international community. In view of its ambivalent history and tradition, Austria is called upon to play an active role in developing European culture that affirms the existing variety and sustains common European values. OIIP develops realistic approaches to international problems and conflicts.
