ENMISA Distinguished Scholar Award

The Ethnicity, Nationalism and Migration (ENMISA) section of the International Studies Association is soliciting nominations for its Distinguished Scholar Award to be given at the annual meeting in New York, NY, 2009.  The committee is composed of Bill Ayres, Yosef Lapid, and Alynna Lyon (chair). Self-nominations are also welcome.

Nominations should include a letter of support and CV.  As a general guideline, nominees should have a substantial record of publishing in the field and service to the section and ISA.  Please send nominations and letters of support via email to ENMISA by July 2, 2008, at the address listed below.  Feel free to contact the committee chair if you have any questions:

International Security Studies Section Book Award

The nomination deadline for the International Security Studies Section Book Award 2008 is June 15, 2008. The award committee welcomes nominations for books on any aspect, and that deploy any approach (historical, quantitative, theoretical, policy analysis, etc.), in the field of security studies. Single-authored and multi-authored books, and edited volumes, on any aspect of security studies with a copyright date of 2007 are eligible for nomination. International Security Studies Section Book Award 2008

The International Security Studies Section announces a Call for Nominations for the Best Book Award 2008.

Eligibility: single-authored and multi-authored books, and edited volumes, on any aspect of security studies with a copyright date of 2007.

Criteria: the committee welcomes nominations for books on any aspect, and that deploy any approach (historical, quantitative, theoretical, policy analysis, etc.), in the field of security studies.

Books will be judged according to three criteria:

  • originality in substance and approach
  • significance for scholarly and/or policy debate
  • rigour in approach and analysis

Process:  Nominations comprise a copy of the book to be submitted to each committee member by 15 June 2008.

Prize and Notification: The winning author will receive $250 and an award certificate. The committee chair will notify the recipient of the award, who will be encouraged to attend the 2009 annual convention in New York in order to receive the award in person.

ISAC/ISSS Annual Conference 2008

The International Security Studies Section of the ISA and the International Security and Arms Control Section of the APSA will  once again hold their joint annual conference in Vail, Colorado, October
23-25, 2008. This year the theme is: Globalization and Security:  American Foreign Policy and the New Administration

The deadline for papers and panels is August 15th. Every effort will be made to accommodate all timely proposals; late proposals will be accepted selectively on a space-available basis. In order to capture the
excellent conference rate of $109/night at the 4-star Vail Cascade Resort you must book your hotel room by September 23rd.  The conference fee of $195 includes four meals and a reception; that rate will also go up after September 23rd.

This year's program chairs are David Goldfischer, Peg Sanders, and Greg Moser of the University of Denver, Brent Talbot of the US Air Force Academy, Jim Smith of the Air Force Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), and Jana Everett of the University of Colorado-Denver and the Denver Council on Foreign Relations (DCFR). Co-sponsor organizations include INSS, the University of Denver (the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) and the Institute on Globalization and Security (IGLOS)), the Inter-University Seminar (IUS, Rocky Mountain Region), and the DCFR. Call for Nominations: ISSS Distinguished Scholar Award

The International Security Studies Section (ISSS) calls for nominations for the Distinguished Scholar Award to be presented at the 2009 ISA Conference in New York. The Distinguished Scholar Award is given for life achievement in International Security Studies. Typically nominees will have made major contributions to scholarship in the field both via their own research and writing and their mentorship of others.

Nominations should be accompanied by a short letter of justification and the nominee's CV. Nominations should be received no later than 15 June 2008.
