11th Annual Human Rights Film Festival

Call for Applicants: MiReKoc International Summer School

The Migration Research Center at Koç University announces a call for applicants for the MiReKoc International Summer School of 2013 entitled, "The Political Economy of International Migration: Labour, Markets, and Development." This summer program is designed to bring together different theoretical and empirical debates on the economy-international migration nexus, which focuses on the perspectives of three main actors of international migration: the migrants, receiving countries/communities, and sending countries/communities. Two weeks of lectures and discussions given and led by a distinguished international faculty will also be combined with field trips within Istanbul involving seminars given by policy-makers and implementers. The programme is designed for PhD and graduate students as well as junior experts in the field. While applications from all over the world are encouraged, this year only five merit-based scholarships will be available for candidates from the Central and Eastern Europe (i.e., Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Serbia). CFA: United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program

The United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program is now accepting applications. The program will be offered from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14, 2013, by the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and the United Nations Foundation – United Nations Association of the USA.  Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this unique program immerses participants in the political dynamics of the United Nations. The program is designed to familiarize students with the inner workings of the United Nations by bringing them together with distinguished practitioners working in the field of multilateral diplomacy. Collaborative Research Center Newsletter

The Collaborative Research Center 700 announces the publication of the current edition of SFB 700 Newsletter. In this edition, the Center presents recent developments at the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood" and Center researchers share the results of their field research. The newsletter also includes a policy brief on the Mérida Initiative, a security cooperation agreement between the United States and Mexico. The second and final newsletter of 2012 has been released and can be downloaded here. The Center, sponsored by the German Research Foundation and based at the Free University of Berlin, is devoted to the analysis of governance under conditions of limited state authority. CFA: International Policy Summer Institute

IPSI announces the opening of applications for the 2013 International Policy Summer Institute (IPSI), the third annual weeklong professional development program held in Washington, D.C. for professors (all ranks) and post-docs in the field of international affairs interested in strengthening the relationship between scholars of international relations and the broader foreign policy community. IPSI, which is part of the overall Bridging the Gap Program co-sponsored by American University, UC Berkeley and Duke University with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, has had great success in its first two years. The intensive curriculum includes sessions with U.S. government officials, policy journal editors, think tanks, media training, other academics engaged in policy relevant work, and other activities. The core goal is to teach participants how to develop and articulate their research for a policy audience, what policy-makers are looking for when they look to IR scholarship, whom to target when sharing research, and which tools and avenues of dissemination are effective and appropriate. The Institute also provides a forum for scholars to develop professional networks with their colleagues and with the broader policy community. Applications are due on January 16, 2013 at 5pm. CFA: APSA MENA Workshop

The American Political Science Association (APSA) is now accepting proposals from political scientists interested in serving as co-leaders for the inaugural APSA MENA Workshop, which will take place in August 2013 in partnership with the American University in Cairo. The MENA Workshops are a multi-year collaboration with early career political science faculty in the Arab Middle East and North Africa to enhance regional scholarly capacity and networks. Leadership teams will be composed of senior researchers from the MENA region and their colleagues from the US and Europe. Together, co-leaders will serve as academic directors of the two-week event and will be responsible for all substantive content. Full details are available online. Workshop in Global Security

The Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS) at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana announces a one-week summer workshop in global security from July 8-13, 2012. Targeted at rising sophomores or advanced undergraduates, the workshop aims (1) to inform students about key security issues; (2) to develop a self-sustaining network of students with competence and interest in security studies; and (3) to introduce students to careers in security policy-making in private and pubic sectors. Students completing the workshop will be awarded a Certificate in International Security Studies. Please see the workshop website for further details.

CFA: Summer Institute in Political Psychology

Applications are being accepted now for the 20th Annual Summer Institute in Political Psychology (SIPP), to be held at Stanford University July 15 to August 4, 2012. The SIPP program takes up to 60 participants and is filling up; there are still some spots available. The Summer Institute offers three weeks of intensive training in political psychology. Political psychology is an exciting and thriving field that explores the origins of political behavior and the causes of political events, with a special focus on the psychological mechanisms at work. Some of the topics covered in past SIPP programs include race relations, conflict and dispute resolution, voting and elections, international conflict, decision-making by political elites, moral disengagement and violence, social networks, activism and social protest, political socialization, and justice.
