CFN: ISA-MW Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Award

The ISA Midwest Region invites nominations for the Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Award. This award is broadly designed to honor faculty members in the ISA Midwest region who excel in working with students, recognizing that a core part of our work as educators takes place both in and out of the classroom and can significantly impact the lives of our students. The award takes into account that excellence in teaching may take a variety of forms. Nominations should be made by a colleague who has first hand knowledge of the nominee’s teaching and mentoring record. Self-nominations are not allowed. The nominee must be a member of ISA Midwest, and/or have attended the conference in the previous five years, and/or be geographically located in the Midwest region. ISA-Midwest Conference Program

The ISA Midwest Annual Conference 2011 will take place this weekend, Nov. 11-13, at the Hilton at the Ballpark in St. Louis, MO. On-site Registration ($45 for faculty, $30 for students) begins Friday, November 11th, at 7:30 am. The conference program has been posted here in PDF format for your review. ISA-NE Conference Program

The annual conference of the International Studies Association-Northeast (ISA-NE) will be held this weekend, 4-5 November 2011, at the Providence Biltmore in Providence, Rhode Island. Panels will be convened on many subjects related to international studies, broadly defined, grouped under this year’s conference theme, Continuity and Change in Global Politics. The conference program has been posted here for your review.

ISA-South 2011 Deadline Reminder

Paper and/or panel proposals for the 2011 ISA-South Annual Conference are due to the Program Chair by July 20, 2011. While paper and panel proposals by professional scholars or practitioners on any topic relating to international studies are welcome, those relating to the conference theme of “Political Communication in International Studies” are especially welcome. Graduate students are encouraged to submit paper proposals and, if accepted, to compete in the ISA-South Jim Winkates Graduate Student Paper Competition. The full announcement can be found here.

CFP: ISA-West Annual Conference

The 2011 ISA-West Annual Meeting will be held September 23-24 at the Pasadena Hilton in the heart of Pasadena, California.  Paper, panel, and roundtable proposals are invited on any aspect of international studies, including those related to pedagogy within the discipline. The program chair especially welcomes proposals related to this year’s theme, The Individual and the International. The theme draws attention to the recent emphasis both in policy and in scholarship on individual agency in the international system. Please submit all paper, roundtable and panel proposals using the MyISA system via your MyISA account. Questions concerning the ISA-West 2011 Conference should be directed to Robert E. CFP: ISA-NE Annual Conference

The annual conference of the International Studies Association-Northeast (ISA-NE) will be held 4-5 November 2011 at the Providence Biltmore in Providence. Rhode Island. ISA-NE invites paper and panel proposals on any subject related to international studies, broadly defined. Topics might include (but are not limited to) international relations theory, international law and organizations, foreign policy, globalization, human rights, international development, conflict resolution, military/strategic studies, the environment, feminist theory/gender studies, and international political economy. ISA-NE expressly welcomes research on critical constructivism, post-structuralism, and postmodernism and/or undertaken through these lenses. We also encourage paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on subjects related to this year’s conference theme, Continuity and Change in Global Politics. Panel, roundtable, and individual paper proposals can be submitted via the MyISA system. Deadline for paper/panel submissions is  20 June 2011. CFP: ISA-Midwest Annual Conference 2011

The program chairs invite paper proposals for the annual conference to be convened this year in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, November 10-13, 2011 at the Hilton at the Ballpark.This regional conference brings together many of the finest scholars, graduate students, and undergraduates from the American Midwest and elsewhere. Not only can participants present papers and attend panels, they can be part of interesting roundtables and workshops, which spotlight scholarly topics (e.g., important foreign-policy issues), publishing (e.g., how and where to publish), pedagogy (e.g., how to teach at a liberal arts institution), and jobs (e.g., how to apply for a position and prepare for an interview). As an organization that promotes interdisciplinary studies and methodological pluralism, ISA-Midwest encourages faculty and students from various disciplines (Political Science, International Studies, History, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, etc.) to participate in this year’s conference. In particular, professors should consider co-authoring papers with their students, be they graduate students or undergraduates. During the conference, the president of the International Studies Association, Beth Simmons of Harvard University, will give a keynote address. As well, a luncheon will honor this year’s Quincy Wright Distinguished Scholar Award recipient. Paper abstracts are due on July 1, 2011. CFN: The Yale H. Ferguson Award

International Studies Association-Northeast invites nominations for the Yale H. Ferguson Award. The award recognizes the book that most advances the vibrancy of international studies as a pluralist discipline. Any book or edited volume published within the field of international studies in the previous calendar year is eligible for consideration. The award winner is selected based on two criteria: (1) that it makes an outstanding contributions to concept-formation, theoretical analysis, or methodological issues in the study of world politics; and (2) that it contributes to the status of international studies as an intellectually pluralist field. Nominations should be emailed to the committee chair accompanied by a brief letter explaining why a work deserves consideration for the award. Authors may nominate themselves. A copy of each book must be sent to each member of the committee, with the line “Yale H. Ferguson Award, c/o” at the top of each address. Nominations  are due by May 1, 2011 and books must be received by May 15, 2011. Please see the award website for more information.

CFP: ISA-APR Annual Conference

The inaugural 2011 Conference of the recently constituted Asia-Pacific Region of the International Studies Association invites proposals for panels, roundtables, and individual papers on the conference theme Regions, States and Peoples in a World of Many Worlds. The conference will take place in Brisbane, Australia from 26 - 27 September 2011 and will be hosted by the University of Queensland. Further details on the conference venue, facilities, organization, accommodation, travel arrangements, and other practicalities will be made available soon via the conference website.

ISA-West 2010 Proposal Deadline Today

Proposals for the ISA-West 2010 annual conference are due today. The call for papers can be found here. The conference will be held this year at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles, September 24-25.  More information can be found at isawest.org. In addition to a program focused upon ethics, we have lined up two excellent speakers; on Friday night, September 24, ISA President David Lake will give an address and the Saturday luncheon speaker is Peter W. Singer, director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative and a senior fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institute. This is a great opportunity for graduate students to submit papers to a conference that has always emphasized teaching and mentoring.  Additionally, on the Thursday before the conference, September 23rd, we are offering a Teaching Training Workshop hosted at the University of Southern California.
