CFP: St Antony’s International Review

St Antony’s International Review (STAIR), an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal based at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. STAIR announces a call for abstracts for a special edition of the journal to be published in February 2014 on “A Re-Examination of Private Military and Security Companies.” This edition will address such questions as: PMSCs in geographical perspective: what will be the private security response to the end of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? Where are the next hotspots for private security involvement? Are the borders of globalization the homeland of the PMSC? STAIR welcomes abstracts up to 500 words. Please submit your abstracts to STAIRjournalPMSC@gmail.com. The deadline for abstracts is the 1 April 2013. See the journal website for more information.

CFP: Workshop for Women in International Security

The organizers invite proposals for the 6th Annual Workshop for Women in International Security. The workshop will be held from 30 May - 1 June 2013 at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Ontario. Paper proposals are invited on the theme: Women, Violence and International Security. The workshop is an opportunity for graduate students to join a growing network of Canadian scholars and professionals working in the areas of security and defence policy, foreign affairs and the military. The workshop will involve panels by mentors from academe, government, and the military, an interactive negotiation exercise, research presentations by graduate participants, and plenty of opportunity for networking. Students are encouraged to submit research related to their thesis or dissertation projects. Proposals may be submitted in English or in French and those selected for panels may present in either language. Selected papers will be considered for publication in International Journal. The Journal is interested both academic papers (approx. 6000 words) and policy papers and commentary (approx. 3000 words). To apply submit a proposal of no more than 250 words and a CV to Dr. Maja Catic, catic@cfc.dnd.ca, by March 31, 2013. Please see the workshop website for more information.

Call for Applicants: MiReKoc International Summer School

The Migration Research Center at Koç University announces a call for applicants for the MiReKoc International Summer School of 2013 entitled, "The Political Economy of International Migration: Labour, Markets, and Development." This summer program is designed to bring together different theoretical and empirical debates on the economy-international migration nexus, which focuses on the perspectives of three main actors of international migration: the migrants, receiving countries/communities, and sending countries/communities. Two weeks of lectures and discussions given and led by a distinguished international faculty will also be combined with field trips within Istanbul involving seminars given by policy-makers and implementers. The programme is designed for PhD and graduate students as well as junior experts in the field. While applications from all over the world are encouraged, this year only five merit-based scholarships will be available for candidates from the Central and Eastern Europe (i.e., Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Serbia). Conference: American Society of International Law

The organizers announce the 107th ASIL Annual Meeting will take place in Washington, DC from April 3-6, 2013. The conference theme is: International Law in a Multipolar World. With over a century of tradition and experience behind it, ASIL's Annual Meeting has become the most important gathering in the field of international law. More than 1,400 practitioners, academics, and students travel to Washington, DC, each spring from all over the world to debate and discuss the latest developments in their field. CFA: United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program

The United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program is now accepting applications. The program will be offered from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14, 2013, by the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and the United Nations Foundation – United Nations Association of the USA.  Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this unique program immerses participants in the political dynamics of the United Nations. The program is designed to familiarize students with the inner workings of the United Nations by bringing them together with distinguished practitioners working in the field of multilateral diplomacy. Applications should be submitted online by April 1, 2013.  Students will be notified of their status by April 15, 2013. Please see the program website for more information.

CFP: ICTIC 2013 Virtual Conference

ICTIC 2013 (March 25-29, 2013) is an International Virtual Conference organized by the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics at the University of Zilina in Slovakia. The conference will be held online as virtual conference. The aim of this conference is to provide a worldwide forum, where the international participants can share their research knowledge and ideas on the recent and latest research and map out the directions for future researchers and collaborations. Member News: Herbert Kelman Awarded Gold Medal of Honor

Herbert C. Kelman, the Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics, Emeritus, at Harvard University, received the Gold Medal of Honor from the Federal Capital of Vienna, “in recognition of his significant achievements.” The medal was presented to him at a ceremony in Vienna’s City Hall on December 12, 2012. Professor Kelman was born in Vienna in 1927, escaped Nazi persecution with his family in 1939, and settled in the United States in 1940.

Global Constitutionalism Announces Online Edition

The journal Global Constitutionalism, published by Cambridge University Press in association with the Centre for Globalisation & Governance, announces that the first issue of 2013 is now available online. This edition is free of charge until the end of April. GCN Journal covers issues related to human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The online journal is available here.
