Fellowship: Cadieux-Léger Fellowship

The Policy Staff at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) is seeking applications for the 2013-2014 Cadieux-Léger Fellowship. The Cadieux-Léger Fellowship is a long tradition within DFAIT which brings outside perspectives and new ideas to our research and to policy development. The Fellow, a PhD student, joins the Policy Staff for a period of nine months and will receive a total sum not greater than $48,000. While at DFAIT, the Fellow is expected to advance Canadian foreign policy and the Policy Staff's research agenda. All applications must be submitted online by April 12, 2013. Kenyon Mellon Post-doctoral Fellowship

Kenyon College seeks applicants for the Kenyon Mellon Post-doctoral Fellowship in International Studies. The post-doctoral program is a one-year teaching fellowship in the humanities or humanistic social sciences for holders of PhD's who come from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds. The program seeks to attract recent recipients of doctoral degrees whose research focus is in international fields of study, including comparative or cross-cultural scholarship. The fellowship program places its greater emphasis on the Fellow's teaching while encouraging mentorship of junior faculty, as well as allowing time for research activities. The Fellow will be expected to teach three courses over the term of the year, including one course that incorporates the teaching of writing as practiced in the disciplinary field(s) of the Fellow. Other potential and desirable course offerings include a course on qualitative methods and a class designed for first year students as an introduction to global exploration and engagement. MA and PhD Fellowships at Central European University

Central European University offers MA and PhD scholarships, fellowships, and admission for students who will begin studies in Fall 2013.  Central European University is an English-language, graduate university located in Budapest, Hungary. Edward R. Murrow Press Fellowship

Launched in 1949 with support from the Carnegie Corporation, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Edward R. Murrow Press Fellowship seeks to promote the quality of responsible and discerning journalism that exemplified the work of Edward R. Murrow. In 1965, the program was renamed in his honor and is supported by the CBS Foundation and Ford Foundation. One CFR resident fellowship is awarded each year to a distinguished foreign correspondent or editor. The Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow spends nine months full time in residence at CFR’s headquarters in New York. The program enables the fellow to engage in sustained analysis and writing, expand his or her intellectual and professional horizons, and extensively participate in CFR’s active program of meetings and events. The program awards a stipend of $65,000 as well as a modest travel grant. The fellow is considered an independent contractor rather than an employee of CFR, and is not eligible for employment benefits, including health insurance. The program is only open to applicants who have distinguished credentials in the field of journalism and who have covered international news as a working journalist for print, broadcast, or online media widely available in the United States. Applicants are limited to those individuals who are authorized to work in the United States and who will continue to be authorized for the duration of the fellowship. CFR does not sponsor for visas.  Interested candidates who meet the program’s eligibility requirements may apply online between January 1 and March 1, 2013.

SSRC Dissertation Fellowships

The Social Science Research Council announces the application process for the 2013 Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) Program. The program supports mid-stage graduate students in formulating effective doctoral dissertation research proposals that contribute to the development of interdisciplinary fields of study in the humanities and social sciences. The 2013 Research Fields are: Critical Approaches to Human Rights,Global Commodity Studies, Mobility, Empowerment and Precarity in African Migration (International Field), Postcolonial Identities and Decolonial Struggles: Creolization and Colored Cosmopolitanism (International Field), and Public Finance and Society: The New Historical Fiscal Sociology. The Fellowship competition is open to second and third year graduate students in all disciplines of the humanities and social science who are enrolled full time in PhD programs at accredited universities in the United States. CFA: Summer Institute for Israel Studies

Applicants are invited to apply for the Summer Institute for Israel Studies 2013, June 17 – July 11, 2013, at Brandeis University and in Israel. A program of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University, the Summer Institute assists faculty in colleges and universities in the design of new courses in Israel Studies, or the enhancement of existing ones. Over 180 faculty members from 160 universities around the world have participated in SIIS since its inception in 2004. Faculty from the social sciences and humanities are invited to apply. This is the 10th anniversary of the Summer Institute for Israel Studies (SIIS). Fellowships include: a stipend of up to $2,500 for full course; $1,500 for Brandeis seminar only; access to vast Israel Studies online resource center and Brandeis University’s online library resources; and travel, meals, and accommodations at Brandeis and in Israel. Applicants may apply online by January 21, 2013.

CFA: Drugs, Security and Democracy Fellowship

The Social Science Research Council announces the application process for the Drugs, Security and Democracy Fellowship. The Drugs, Security and Democracy (DSD) Program provides support for research across a variety of disciplines—anthropology, sociology, criminology, history, political science, economics, journalism, public policy, legal studies, public health, and other related fields—to create a network of scholars interested in developing alternative approaches to drug policy and fostering strategies that address the growth of transnational organized crime. The competition is open to PhD candidates and recent PhD recipients worldwide. The program strives to create a stronger, more systematized knowledge base on drugs, security and democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean; to build capacity—both institutional and individual—by supporting relevant research; and to encourage policy-relevant, evidence-based research that could lead to the development of alternatives to present-day security and drug policies. CFR 2013-2014 Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship

The Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship (SNSF) Program, made possible by a generous grant from the Stanton Foundation, offers younger scholars studying nuclear security issues the opportunity to spend a period of twelve months at the Council on Foreign Relations’ (CFR) offices in New York or Washington, DC, conducting policy-relevant research. The SNSF Program seeks to stimulate the development of the next generation of thought leaders in nuclear security. Applications for the 2013-2014 program are now being accepted. Qualified candidates must be junior (non-tenured) faculty, post-doctoral fellows, or pre-doctoral candidates from any discipline who are working on a nuclear security related issue. The program is only open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are eligible to work in the United States. CFR does not sponsor for visas. The duration of the fellowship is twelve months, preferably beginning in September. The program awards a stipend of $100,000 for junior (non-tenured) faculty; $75,000 for post-doctoral; and $50,000 for pre-doctoral fellows. Payment will be made in twelve equal monthly installments. Fellows are considered independent contractors rather than employees of CFR, and are not eligible for employment benefits, including health insurance. Interested candidates who meet the program’s eligibility requirements must submit an application form, a cover letter, a CV, and a proposal outlining the work proposed to conduct. Each applicant should arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent assessing the policy relevance of the applicant’s proposed project as well as the applicant’s qualifications for carrying it out. International Affairs Fellowship in Nuclear Security

The International Affairs Fellowship in Nuclear Security (IAF-NS), sponsored by the Stanton Foundation, offers university-based scholars valuable hands-on experience in the nuclear security policymaking field and places selected fellows in U.S. government positions or international organizations for a period of twelve months to work with practitioners. The IAF-NS is only open to faculty members with tenure or on tenure-track lines at accredited universities and who propose to conduct policy-relevant research on nuclear security issues. Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are eligible to work in the United States and be between the ages of twenty-nine and forty. CFR does not sponsor for visas. Fellowship: Georgetown University Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar's Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS) invites applications for the 2012-2013 post-doctoral fellowship. The fellowship will support a recent Ph.D. recipient in any discipline working on the Middle East.  Priority is given to projects with demonstrated relevance to the Persian Gulf. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation (including one from the chair of the dissertation committee), and a short synopsis of the Ph.D. dissertation. Also, candidates should provide a statement outlining the precise nature of the intended work during the period of the fellowship, the final product’s significance for the relevant literature, and when the completion of the project for publication may be expected.
