CfP: Phi Beta Delta

Phi Beta Delta, a cooperating organization of ISA, will host its Annual Conference April 8-9, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza (City Center location) Philadelphia , Pennsylvania. The theme for the conference is “Higher Education, Globalization, and Internationalization: Collaborating in Economically Challenging Times”. Deadline for the Call for Papers is December 11, 2009. The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society honors those who serve internationalism - the idea of a world connected, of respect for different traditions, of the need for education to enhance knowledge of the many cultures that are part of a globe that we all must share.

SGIR Young Researchers Workshops

With ‘Young Researchers Workshops (YRW)’ the Standing Group of International Relations (SGIR) of the ECPR offers an opportunity for young scholars (advanced doctoral students and recent post-docs) to familiarize themselves with academic conferencing. The workshop scheme seeks to advance networking, publication and academic discussion among young researchers. Towards that end, the SGIR offers an award of up to 7.500 EURO per workshop (approx. 10-12 participants) which should cover travel of all the participants and accommodation for some. The workshops either precede or follow the seventh Pan-European Conference on International Relations in Stockholm on 9-11 September 2010. Besides substantial criteria, preference will be given to applications which seek a relatively balanced participation from all parts of Europe.

SGIR welcomes workshop proposals on any topic of relevance to current research in International Relations. A workshop proposal includes:

   1. a 800 word summary which outlines the scientific relevance of the topic; and
   2. a list of some potential participants and paper titles (up to 8 ) beyond the workshop convener(s).

The YRW committee consisting of Élise Féron, Stefano Guzzini, Helena Rytövuori-Apunen, Antje Wiener, and Bernhard Zangl will accept full proposals until 15 September 2009. Successful workshop convenor(s) will be notified so that they can prepare a call for papers with a deadline of 31 January 2010. CfP: SGIR 7th Pan-European Conference

The ECPR Standing Group on International Relations is announcing its 7th Pan-European Conference to be held in Stockholm Sweden from 9-11 September 2010. The Steering Committee of the SGIR hereby issues a call for section convenors for the 2010 Pan-European Conference. The academic programme for the conference will be organised in the usual format of sections and panels. A section is a number of panels linked by a common theme. The conference can host up to 30 parallel sections. Section convenors organise the panels, select papers and panels (via the conference internet platform), identify panel chairs and discussants, and take responsibility for the actual execution of their section’s contribution to the conference programme. This includes the selection of best paper by a research student in their section and the provision of advice regarding the appropriate size of panel rooms. A section may consist of either five or ten 105 minute panel sessions during the programme. Each 105-minute panel should comprise four to five papers plus discussant and chair. Proposals should be made online. Deadline: September 15, 2009.

Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS)

ISA welcomes the Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS) as affiliated cooperating organization. Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS), formerly Chinese Scholars of Political Science and International Studies, is a non-profit, non-political organization for scholarly and professional ativities.  ACPS was founded in 1986 in the United States to promote academic exchange among Chinese sccholars and American scholars of China studies. In 1995, the organization changed its name to Association of Chinese Political Studies, and since then the organization is for all who study Chinese politics. Currently the organization has over 400 members from various parts of the world. Eighty percent of them are male and 20% of them are female. ACPS publishes scholarly books, newsletters, and a refereed academic journal -- Journal of Chinese Political Science.
