CFP: German Studies Association Annual Conference

The German Studies Association (GSA) will hold its Thirty-Seventh Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, October 3-6, 2013. The Program Committee invites proposals on any aspect of German, Austrian, or Swiss studies, including (but not limited to) history, Germanistik, film, art history, political science, anthropology, musicology, religious studies, sociology, and cultural studies. Proposals for entire sessions and for interdisciplinary presentations are encouraged.  Individual paper proposals and offers to serve as session moderators or commentators are also welcome. ALL proposals must be submitted online; paper forms are not used.  The deadline for proposals is February 15, 2013. Presenters must be members of the Association. CFP: BISA Annual Conference 2013

The organizers invite paper and panel proposals for the British International Studies Association (BISA) Annual Conference 2013 to be held at Brindley Place, Birmingham, UK, on the 20th & 21st of June. Proposals are invited on the conference theme: Beyond the Ivory Tower: IR and the Real World. The conference will consider a variety of research topics. How much impact do international studies have on the real world? Do scholars have a responsibility to address policy and political concerns? The “impact” agenda, promoted by the UK research councils and assessed in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, presupposes that scholars can and should make a difference beyond the ivory tower. The organizers invite participants to consider the ethical, methodological, and practical issues raised by the new emphasis on impact in academic research, and the implications for international studies. To encourage debate on the conference theme, BISA will sponsor a plenary panel of leading scholars in the field (to be announced shortly). Proposals should be submitted by December 3, 2012. CFP: Economic Sociology and Sociology of Economic Thought

The organizers invite proposals for a workshop on Economic Sociology and Sociology of Economic Thought to be held at the University of Jena, 23th–24th May 2013. The aim of this workshop is to assess and understand the impact of the crisis for economics (including the importance of economics for making the crisis possible), the contours and limits of economics and its scientific outlook. For this workshop, contributions are invited from all social sciences that pursue this question (broadly defined) and help us to understand the limits, contours and current changes of economic thought in this time of world economic crisis. Amid concerns about Hurricane Sandy, Samuel Barkin, ISA-NE Program Chair 2012, has just notified us that the region's annual conference (scheduled for Nov. 2-3 in Baltimore, MD) will go on as planned:

The ISA-NE conference in Baltimore will be going ahead as planned. If you will not be able to attend the conference, please notify both me and your fellow panelists as soon as possible. Since some people will undoubtedly not be able to attend, we may need to be a little flexible in making some panels work. If you are a discussant on a panel and will not be able to make it to the conference, please consider alternative mechanisms for delivering comments, such as sending comments that can be read in your absence. CFP: 8th Annual AGS Graduate Student Conference

The American Graduate School in Paris invites submissions for its 8th Annual AGS Graduate Student Conference. This year’s theme is “Identity and Gender Politics within International Relations.” The conference will be held April 18-19, 2013 at the American Graduate School in Paris. The aim of the conference is to analyze the impact of identity and gender—often conditioned by class, race, biology and sexuality—within the social and cultural framework of International Relations. Commonalities and intersections between these areas, as well as their impact on interstate and state governance, international conflict, and public awareness should be a main concern of conference contributors. ISA-NE Early Registration Ending

Early registration for the ISA-NE 2012 Annual Conference ends tonight at midnight Pacific Time. Registration is taking place online via the MyISA system. The conference will be held 2-3 November 2012 at the Tremont Plaza Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference will address a wide variety of topics including international relations theory, international law and organizations, foreign policy, globalization, human rights, international development, conflict resolution, military/strategic studies, the environment, feminist theory/gender studies, and international political economy. The Association for Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN) is pleased to announce the call for papers for the 23rd ASEN Annual Conference: Nationalism and Revolution. The conference will take place from the 9-11th April, 2013 at the London School of Economics. All the information on the Call for Papers is available online and you can submit your abstract here. Abstracts are accepted until November 30, 2012.

Japan Studies Assoc. CFP Extended

The program chairs announce that the proposal deadline has been extended for the Nineteenth Annual Conference of the Japan Studies Association to be held at Hawaii Tokai International College in Honolulu from January 3-5, 2013. The conference occurs annually at various locations throughout the United States, inviting nationally and internationally prominent personalities to give presentations concerning Japan. In addition, refereed papers are presented by qualified JSA members in multiple sessions. Papers presented at the conference regularly appear in the Japan Studies Assocation Journal. Proposals may be submitted to Program Chairs Dr. Tom Campbell, Wabash College (USA), and Dr. Maggie Ivanova, Flinders University (Australia) at the address shown on the online form. Conference: War & Memory

The hosts invite attendance at a conference on War & Memory: Bearing Witness to Loss in Everyday Life, to be held October 19 and 20, 2012 at the University of Oregon and presented by the Oregon Review of International Law. Political violence, state terror, exceptionalism, and the traumatic effects of war are the focus of this interdisciplinary symposium. The keynote speaker will be Arturo Arias, University of Texas, Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the featured speaker will be Kate Doyle. Please see the conference website for more information.
