CFP: Stability: International Journal of Security & Development

ISA members are invited to contribute to a new, open-access and peer-reviewed journal – Stability: International Journal of Security & Development. Stability aims to bring inter-disciplinary perspectives to a wide range of issues at the security-development nexus, including but not limited to: conflict prevention/risk reduction, peace-building, governance and state-building, organised crime and trafficking, security sector reform, judicial reform, public administration reform, peacekeeping, stability operations/stabilisation and whole-of-government or whole-of-system approaches in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Content should be informative and reflect a grasp of the relevant academic literature, though it is equally crucial that articles be presented in an accessible manner suitable for policymakers and practitioners. All content in Stability is widely shared throughout policy and practice communities, and we are particularly interested in submissions from authors whose pieces have some degree of practical significance. Hence, we accept three kinds of articles, including Research Articles (5,000-8,000 words) based on original research, Practice Notes (2,000-4,000 words) based on practical expertise and, lastly, Commentaries (1,000-2,000 words) from recognised experts such as diplomats, senior IO/NGO personnel and others. All content in Stability is published online and as a PDF, and Stability is included in all major journal article indices and databases. Articles are accepted on an ongoing basis and, in line with open-access standards, are published as soon as they have been finalised. Hence, we are particularly well suited for authors whose research is both impact-oriented and timely. CFP: PSS-ISA Joint Conference, 2013, Budapest, Hungary

This is a reminder of the upcoming August 31st, 2012 deadline for proposals submissions to the Peace Science Society/ISA joint conference in Budapest, Hungary. The conference will be held at Corvinus University from June 27-29th, 2013. Proposals are being accepted through the MyISA system. This conference will explore the numerous security challenges states face today both domestically and globally and how these challenges influence interstate conflict, civil war, and peaceful conflict management practices. Three distinct phenomena form the backdrop of this conference: climate change, the global financial crisis, and the revolutionary awakening across the Middle East region. Each of these developments carries the potential to destabilize societies and cause widespread human suffering. More broadly, the conference seeks to engage dialogue on conflict and conflict management research to understand how states are responding to shifts in the global security environment. CfP: Journal of Global Analysis

The Journal of Global Analysis invites submissions for upcoming editions. Journal of Global Analysis endeavors to become the foremost international forum for academics, researchers and policy makers to share their knowledge and experience in the disciplines of political science, international relations, economics, sociology, international law, political history, and human geography. The journal is an interdisciplinary refereed e-journal, edited by a group of international scholars indicated in the Editorial Board and International Advisory Board. The editors welcomes submissions of articles from related persons involved in the scope of the journal as well as summary reports of conferences and lecture series held in social sciences. Prospective authors should submit 4,000 - 15,000-word articles for consideration in Microsoft Word-compatible format. CFP: EU - 40 Years since the First Enlargement

The program chairs invite proposals for a converence devoted to the European Union to be held in London 7-8 March 2013. The conference theme is: 40 Years since the First Enlargement. 2013 is the 40th anniversary of the first enlargement of the European Union. To mark the occasion, UACES is organising a conference exploring the evolution of the integration project since the accession of the UK, Denmark and Ireland in 1973. The anniversary provides an opportunity to assess the impact of membership across these states and to advance the understanding of the contemporary conditions of European integration. The conference will involve a mixture of plenary addresses from leading political figures and five panels dedicated to assessing the impact of EU membership from a range of disciplinary perspectives. CFP: CISS/UNU-CRIS Joint Conference 2013

The program chair invites paper and panel proposals for the CISS/UNU-CRIS Joint Conference to be held in Bruges, Belgium from June 19 - 21, 2013. Proposals are invited on the conference theme "Cooperation, Integration, and Alliances: Regional and Global Perspectives, Challenges and Solutions." The interconnected world of the twenty first century is uniquely situated to explore integrative and cooperative policies and institutional structures to meet the variety of challenges that confront the international community. These issues span a wide range of economic, political, social and cultural dimensions. This conference proposes to engage in a discourse that analyses the magnitude of these challenges and suggest creative integrative responses. A cross professional and cross disciplinary approach will greatly enhance our understanding of global challenges and lead to effective solutions. Paper, panel, and roundtable proposals to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue are invited from scholars, policy makers, and interested professionals. CFP: First Global South International Studies Conference

The conference chair invites paper and panel proposals for the the First Global South International Studies Conference to be held November 29-30 & December 1, 2012 at the campus of Sciences Po in Menton, France. The conference is co-sponsored by the International Studies Association’s Global South Caucus and the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Proposals are invited on the conference theme "Sharing Insights and Ideas: Theorizing, Teaching, Research, and Publishing on the Global South." The conference will be devoted to developing theoretical ideas appropriate to studying the international relations and foreign policy of the global south as well as to sharing teaching, learning and publishing experiences and methods--perceived shortcomings as well as strengths—related to the study of the south by scholars/students from the north and south. CFP: 8th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science, IR and Public Policy

The conveners announce the call for the 8th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy in memory of Yitzhak Rabin, to be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, December 12-14 2012. The conveners invite proposals from graduate students as well as recent PhDs based in Israel and abroad who work in the fields of Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy, as well as related fields such as Politics and Law, Political History, Political Economy, Political Geography, Political Philosophy, Political Psychology, Political Sociology and Political Communication. CFP: 2012 ISA-West Annual Meeting

Please note the new extended deadline of July 20th: The 2012 ISA-West Annual Meeting, co-sponsored this year by the ISA International Ethics Section, will be held October 19-20 at the Pasadena Hilton in the heart of Pasadena, California. We invite paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on any aspect of international studies, including those related to pedagogy within the discipline. We especially welcome proposals related to this year’s theme, Climate Change and Human Security.  The predicted impact of climate change on human societies has been a topic of wide-ranging discussion for some years.  While there are still "climate deniers" who argue that climate change is not happening or is not resulting from human activity, groups such as the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have issued a series of reports detailing predictions for the future in areas of food security, fresh water availability and access, health and the spread/migration of disease, and effects on coastal areas due to rising sea levels and increased storm severity.  All of these will have significant consequences on human societies; many will lead to life-threatening challenges for various populations around the world. Proposals must be submitted via MyISA. The deadline for the submission of proposals is July 20, 2012. Call for Papers: Asia Pacific Conference

The Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies (RCAPS), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) would like to announce its Call for Presenters for the 2012 Annual Asia Pacific Conference to be held December 7-9, 2012 in Beppu City, Oita, Japan. Every year, the Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies (RCAPS) holds an international Asia Pacific Conference (AP Conference) aiming at becoming a Center of Excellence. This year’s AP Conference will consist of two parts. One part will be a “Graduate Student Workshop” and the other part will consist of regular panel sessions. The two parts will simultaneously take place on the APU Campus with overlapping schedules. The theme for the workshop is “Disaster Management and Japan”, and the theme for the regular panel sessions is study fields relating to the Asia Pacific. CFP: The Journal of Regional Security

The Journal of Regional Security announces a call for papers for a special issue on "Security Community Building: Bridging the Theory/Policy Divide." During the past decades academic and policy communities, dealing with international politics and security, have significantly parted ways. The goal of the special issue is to help bring the two worlds together in order to widen and deepen the knowledge and practice of security community building. The editors are welcoming papers that offer novel and theoretically sound understanding of security community building practices. We are specifically interested in papers drawing on the recent "practice turn" in International Relations and Security Studies. The Journal of Regional Security (former Western Balkans Security Observer) is the first peer-reviewed journal specializing in the field of regional security studies. It was established in 2006 by Belgrade Centre for Security Policy and since 2012 is being co-published with the Faculty of Political Sciences/University of Belgrade.
