CFP: Annual MPSA Conference

The Midwest Political Science Association has informed us that there is still time for graduate students who may be interested in presenting at the 71st Annual MPSA Conference, April 11-14, 2013. Chicago, IL. The deadline for proposals for paper presentations was in October, but the deadline for poster presentations is at the end of this month. Discussants and panel chairs are also needed. You may submit your proposal online by November 30, 2012.

CFP: German Studies Association Annual Conference

The German Studies Association (GSA) will hold its Thirty-Seventh Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, October 3-6, 2013. The Program Committee invites proposals on any aspect of German, Austrian, or Swiss studies, including (but not limited to) history, Germanistik, film, art history, political science, anthropology, musicology, religious studies, sociology, and cultural studies. Proposals for entire sessions and for interdisciplinary presentations are encouraged.  Individual paper proposals and offers to serve as session moderators or commentators are also welcome. ALL proposals must be submitted online; paper forms are not used.  The deadline for proposals is February 15, 2013. Presenters must be members of the Association. CFP: BISA Annual Conference 2013

The organizers invite paper and panel proposals for the British International Studies Association (BISA) Annual Conference 2013 to be held at Brindley Place, Birmingham, UK, on the 20th & 21st of June. Proposals are invited on the conference theme: Beyond the Ivory Tower: IR and the Real World. The conference will consider a variety of research topics. How much impact do international studies have on the real world? Do scholars have a responsibility to address policy and political concerns? The “impact” agenda, promoted by the UK research councils and assessed in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, presupposes that scholars can and should make a difference beyond the ivory tower. The organizers invite participants to consider the ethical, methodological, and practical issues raised by the new emphasis on impact in academic research, and the implications for international studies. To encourage debate on the conference theme, BISA will sponsor a plenary panel of leading scholars in the field (to be announced shortly). Proposals should be submitted by December 3, 2012. CFP: Economic Sociology and Sociology of Economic Thought

The organizers invite proposals for a workshop on Economic Sociology and Sociology of Economic Thought to be held at the University of Jena, 23th–24th May 2013. The aim of this workshop is to assess and understand the impact of the crisis for economics (including the importance of economics for making the crisis possible), the contours and limits of economics and its scientific outlook. For this workshop, contributions are invited from all social sciences that pursue this question (broadly defined) and help us to understand the limits, contours and current changes of economic thought in this time of world economic crisis. CFP: Journal of Strategic Security

The Journal of Strategic Security (JSS), a publication of Henley-Putnam University, seeks manuscripts for an upcoming issue focusing on targeted violence. In the early 1990s Robert Fein and Bryan Vossekuil coined the term "targeted violence" to refer to "situations in which an identifiable (or potentially identifiable) perpetrator poses (or may pose) a threat of violence to a particular individual or group" (Fein, Vossekuil, & Holden, 1995, p. 2). Contributions might address issues such as interviewing strategies, innovative protective intelligence systems or analytic methods, detailed and systematic case studies, recent trends, public perceptions, and international comparisons, or they might focus on a particular form of targeted violence or characteristics of the perpetrators and their pre-attack behaviors. The Journal welcomes creative approaches to addressing the strategic impact of targeted violence, and looks forward to receiving submissions by the November 1, 2012 deadline. CFP: Global Conversations Journal

Global Conversations Journal, a new International Relations Journal founded by students at the London School of Economics, is seeking to publish the outstanding work of young scholars in IR. This includes the work of both undergraduate and graduate students. Both broad theoretical papers (in the style of Foreign Affairs) and specific research papers will be welcomed. The journal will not adopt a predetermined theoretical stance ( be it neorealist, post structuralist etc. ) but will rather seek to promote a global inter-paradigm debate. CFP: 8th Annual AGS Graduate Student Conference

The American Graduate School in Paris invites submissions for its 8th Annual AGS Graduate Student Conference. This year’s theme is “Identity and Gender Politics within International Relations.” The conference will be held April 18-19, 2013 at the American Graduate School in Paris. The aim of the conference is to analyze the impact of identity and gender—often conditioned by class, race, biology and sexuality—within the social and cultural framework of International Relations. Commonalities and intersections between these areas, as well as their impact on interstate and state governance, international conflict, and public awareness should be a main concern of conference contributors. CFP: ASEN 2013 Conference, Nationalism and Revolution

The Association for Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN) is pleased to announce the call for papers for the 23rd ASEN Annual Conference: Nationalism and Revolution. The conference will take place from the 9-11th April, 2013 at the London School of Economics. All the information on the Call for Papers is available online and you can submit your abstract here. Japan Studies Assoc. CFP Extended

The program chairs announce that the proposal deadline has been extended for the Nineteenth Annual Conference of the Japan Studies Association to be held at Hawaii Tokai International College in Honolulu from January 3-5, 2013. The conference occurs annually at various locations throughout the United States, inviting nationally and internationally prominent personalities to give presentations concerning Japan. In addition, refereed papers are presented by qualified JSA members in multiple sessions. Papers presented at the conference regularly appear in the Japan Studies Assocation Journal. Proposals may be submitted to Program Chairs Dr. Tom Campbell, Wabash College (USA), and Dr. Maggie Ivanova, Flinders University (Australia) at the address shown on the online form. CFP: The Future of Development Lending

The editors invite submissions for an edited volume with the working title: The Future of Development Lending: A Gendered Analysis of Social Policy, Neoliberal Globalization and Survival Migration. This volume will bring together gendered analyses of the methods, assumptions, intentions, and consequences of current practices. A gendered analysis of each will provide remedial – possibly innovative – alternatives to existing practices. The articles within this volume will assess the conditions that continue to exist in developing countries despite the claim that the 2008 economic crisis marked the end of western imposition of policies and programs of austerity that had for 30 years promoted neoliberal economic development. One central question is whether the leaders of developing countries will maintain control of development policymaking and what this transition might mean for women and the dis-empowered in the developing world. Those interested in submitting an essay for inclusion in the volume should send an email indicating interest and an abstract to isacallforpapers@bloomu.edu. Completed drafts should be received by December 15, 2012.
