Call for Nominations: FTGS Best Paper Award

The Feminist Theory and Gender Studies Section annually offers an award for the best feminist theory and/or gender studies graduate student paper presented at the last ISA meetings. The award carries a stipend of $100 and comes with a peer-review by the International Feminist Journal of Politics with a prospect for publication. We currently accept nominations for the best paper presented at the 2010 ISA conference in New Orleans.

Nominations may be made by anyone in the profession. We encourage in particular discussants and chairs on FTGS panels to let us know about outstanding papers you encountered. Self-nominations are also welcome. The person nominated must have been a student at the time the paper was presented. 

Nominations should include contact information of the nominee and, in the case of self-nominations, also a copy of the relevant paper. They should be submitted to the chair of the Award Committee at Elisabeth.Pruegl@graduateinstitute.ch by July 1, 2010. Results of the competition will be announced in early September 2010. Call for Nominations: 2010 Boulding Award

The Peace Studies Section of ISA sends this reminder that nominations for the 2010 Boulding Award are due this week. The award was established to honor Kenneth E. Boulding, a founder of the field of Peace Studies. The Award Committee seeks a graduate student research paper, delivered at the most recent ISA meetings, that is (a) theoretically based, (b) empirical (qualitative and/or quantitative), and (c) relevant to a significant problem in the field of peace studies. Any excellent exploration in the area of Peace Research is eligible. Direct submissions from graduate students and nominations from panel chairs and discussants are welcome. The award recipient will receive a two-year membership in ISA, a travel grant from the Peace Studies Section toward expenses to attend the ISA Annual Convention, and a certificate to be awarded at the 2011 convention. To nominate, please submit an electronic copy of the paper presented at the recent New Orleans convention to Gavan Duffy, gduffy@syr.edu. Please include the full contact information and institutional affiliations of the nominator and, if different, the nominee. Deadline for submissions: May 1, 2010.

WCIS Awards

The ISA Women’s Caucus for International Studies and sponsor Lynne Rienner (Lynne Rienner Publishers) are pleased to announce that Maia Carter Hallward has been awarded the Deborah (“Misty”) Gerner Grant for Professional Development for this year and Professor Meredith Reid Sarkees, currently a Scholar in Residence at the Women & Politics Institute at American University, is being honored with ISA’s Susan S. Northcutt Service Award. 

Call for Nominations: Ernst-Otto Czempiel Award for Peace Research

The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) invites submissions for the Ernst-Otto Czempiel Award for peace research. The award, in honour of the former director of PRIF, is endowed with 5,000.- euros and will be given for the best postdoctoral monograph published in the field of peace research in 2008 or 2009. Book versions of Ph.D. theses and books by authors of the age of 45 or older at the date of publication are excluded.

Nominations and self-nominations are possible. Every nomination should contain the name, full address and e-mail address of the author and the title of the book. In the case of self-nomination, the application should in addition contain a CV, a list of publications, and a copy of the book. The nomination deadline is 31 May 2010.

The winner will be selected by a jury consisting of Prof. Dr Eva Senghaas-Knobloch, Prof. Dr Dirk Messner and Prof. Dr Harald Mueller. The award ceremony will take place during PRIF’s Annual Conference, on 22/23 October 2010, in Frankfurt/Germany.

CfA: ISS Student Paper Award

The Intelligence Studies Section (ISS) of ISA announces the first annual competition for the Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award. The award will be made annually by ISS in recognition of excellence for the best undergraduate or graduate student paper on a subject dealing with intelligence presented at the ISA annual convention. Nominations are due by March 26, 2010. For more information, please see the award website.

Call for Nominations: Heisler Award

The Martin O. Heisler Graduate Student Paper Award recognizes the best paper presented at a panel or poster session by a graduate student at the 2009 ISA Conference. Students matriculated in a graduate program (masters or doctorate) are eligible. Submissions must focus on at least one of the three principal areas of concern to the ENMISA Section: ethnicity, nationalism, and/or migration. Students who wish to enter the competition may submit papers and their contact information on or before January 1, 2010 to the Heisler Award Competition Coordinator Kamal Sadiq <kamal@uci.edu> by Jan. 1, 2010. Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award

The Intelligence Studies Section (ISS) of the International Studies Association is pleased to announce the first annual competition for the Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award. The award will be made annually by ISS in recognition of excellence for the best undergraduate or graduate student paper on a subject dealing with intelligence presented at the ISA annual conference. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any university or college in a humanities, social science, or similar program. Only papers submitted and presented at the 2010 ISA conference are eligible. Papers may not exceed 40 pages, including notes. Theses and other major research projects are not eligible, but chapters from theses, research projects, or dissertations may be submitted within the specified length. The author of the winning paper will receive a cash prize of $500. Submissions must include the author’s name, institution, and complete contact information.  All submissions are to be made in Word or PDF format. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Submissions should be submitted to the award committee chairman: Joe Faragone <joe.faragone@nrcan.rncan.gc.ca>. The deadline for submissions is 26 March 2010.

Call for Nominations: The Alger Prize

The Chadwick F. Alger Prize recognizes the best book published in the previous calendar year on the subject of international organization and multilateralism. The award committee is particularly interested in works dealing with how international organizations interact with nongovernmental organizations and other local civil society actors, as reflected in many of the writings of Chadwick F. Alger. The recipient may be at any stage of his or her career and from any country. The recipient receives a $250.00 (USD) cash prize from the International Organization account and a certificate. The King Baudouin International Development Prize

The King Baudouin Foundation invites nominations for the 2010-2011 King Baudouin International Development Prize. The King Baudouin Prize rewards the work of persons or organizations which have made a substantial contribution to the development of countries in the southern hemisphere. The 2010-2011 Prize, worth 150,000 euros, will be awarded in the spring of 2011 at the Royal Palace in Brussels. Beyond its actual financial value, the Prize procures international visibility and promotion for its winners. To nominate a candidate, please complete the electronic form on the website. Nominations must be received by February 1, 2010 and submitted by a nominator.
