ISA's IPE Section announces that the nomination deadline for the SWIPE Mentor Award has been extended to August 15th. The SWIPE Mentor Award pays tribute to women and men who have invested in the professional success of women in the IPE field. Recipients have included scholars, an academic press editor, and deans. The International Ethics Section of ISA invites nominations for the Best Book Award competition. The Section will will award one prize of $200 for the best book published in the field of international ethics. The award recognizes a book that excels in originality, significance and rigor in the broadly defined field of international ethics. The subject matter of the book can be, but is not limited to, international descriptive ethics, international normative ethics, metaethics, comparative ethics, international religious ethics, international political theory, and international legal theory. ISA invites nominations for the Karl Deutsch Award. The award was established in 1981 to recognize scholars in IR under age 40, or within ten years of defending their dissertation. The Karl Deutsch Award is presented annually to a scholar who is judged to have made (through a body of publications) the most significant contribution to the study of International Relations and Peace Research. ISA invites nominations for the J. Ann Tickner Award. The award was established in 2011 to recognize J. Ann Tickner for her pathbreaking role within the International Studies Association and in the discipline of International Relations more generally. This award recognizes someone who, in Tickner’s footsteps, consistently combines bravery in pursuing high-quality, pioneering scholarship that pushes the boundaries of the discipline with a deep commitment to service, especially teaching and mentoring. Nominations must include a detailed letter of the nominee’s accomplishments generally and suitability for this award specifically, as well as an up-to-date curriculum vitae for the nominee. Nominations of women and other members of historically marginalized groups are especially welcome. The recipient will receive a $1000.00 (USD) check and a plaque to be presented at the 2013 ISA Annual Convention in San Francisco. Nominations should be received by October 15, 2012. The Ethnicity, Nationalism and Migration Section of ISA invites you to consider nominations for the 2013 ENMISA Distinguished Book Award. The ENMISA Book Award recognizes the best book published over the past two years in the study of the international politics of ethnicity, nationalism or migration. The criteria for the award include the originality of the argument presented, quality of the research, ability to draw on the insights of the multiple disciplines, innovative methods or methodological syntheses, readability of the text and the policy or practical implications of the scholarship. The Award Committee is particularly interested in books that engage multiple areas of analytical interest to ENMISA members. Nominations should be received by August 15, 2012. Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award. Papers on any intelligence topic presented by an undergraduate or graduate student at the 2012 ISA conference in San Diego are eligible. Nominations are limited to papers presented at the 2012 ISA Annual Convention. For co-authored papers, the student nominee must be the principal investigator and author to be eligible for consideration. Self-nominations are permitted, as are nominations from faculty mentors, panel chairmen and discussants, and conference attendees. Nominations should include: the student's name; identification of student's academic institution; contact information (email address and phone number); title of the paper being submitted; panel name or number in which the paper was presented. A copy of the paper nominated is not required. The Selection Committee will draw nominated papers from the on-line conference archive. As such, papers must have been uploaded to the conference paper archive to be eligible. Nominations may be made to the selection committee chair, Dr. Glenn Hastedt (hastedgp AT jmu.edu) or to the Intelligence Studies Section chair, Dr. Daniel Gressang (daniel.gressang AT gmail.com), identifying the submission with the subject line "ISS Student Paper Award Nomination." Nominations are due by May 18, 2012. One award will be made in the amount of $500.00, and presented at the ISS business meeting at the 2013 ISA Annual Convention in San Francisco.

The International Political Sociology Section of ISA (IPS) announces the debut of two new awards designed to promote research and recognize outstanding scholars. The IPS Graduate student Paper Award is designed to recognize the best graduate student paper presented at the previous year’s convention in an IPS (co-)sponsored panel. If you would like to nominate a paper, please visit the IPS website. The deadline is June 15, 2012. The IPS Book Award is selected for its outstanding contribution to international political sociology, whether in the form of theoretical development, empirical analysis, or both. Single- and multi-authored monographs published (i.e., with copyright dates) in the previous two calendar years are eligible for the award. For further information, please visit the IPS website. The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2012 (for books published in 2011 and 2012).

The Peace Studies Section of ISA invites nominations for the 2012 Boulding Award. The award was established to honor Kenneth E. Boulding, a founder of the field of Peace Studies. The Award Committee seeks a graduate student research paper, delivered at the most recent ISA meetings, that is (a) theoretically based, (b) empirical (qualitative and/or quantitative), and (c) relevant to a significant problem in the field of peace studies. Any excellent exploration in the area of Peace Research is eligible. Direct submissions from graduate students and nominations from panel chairs and discussants are welcome. The award recipient will receive a two-year membership in the ISA (including peace studies section), a cash award of $250.00 (USD), a travel grant of up to $300 (USD) to attend next year's convention and a certificate to be awarded at the convention. A cash award of $50.00 (USD) will be awarded to the runner-up. Nominations are due to the chair of the award committee by May 30, 2012. Please see the award website for more information.
