Call for Nominations: IPS Paper Award

The International Political Sociology Section of ISA announces a call for nominations for the Best Paper Award. Instituted in 2012, this award is designed to recognize “best graduate student paper” presented at the previous year’s convention in an IPS (co-)sponsored panel. CFA: EISA Best Ph.D. Student Paper

The European International Studies Association (EISA) invites nominations for a competition to judge the Best Ph.D. Student Paper 2012.  The main criteria for judging the papers will be outstanding scholarship and originality. Papers may have been presented at a workshop or conference or published during 2012. The Best Ph.D. Student Paper Award will be announced at the upcoming EISA Pan-European Conference in Warsaw, Poland (18-21 September). Nominations and a copy of the paper should be sent to the selection committee chair, Professor Karin Fierke (kf30@st-andrews.ac.uk). The deadline for nominations is 1 May 2013.

Call for Nominations: Sussex International Theory Prize

The Centre for Advanced International Theory invites nominations for the 2013 Sussex International Theory Prize for the best piece of research in International Relations published in book or article form in 2012.  The recipient will be invited to present their research in a Public Lecture at the University of Sussex and will also receive £150 worth of books from Cambridge University Press and a two-year print and online subscription to International Theory. Nominations by individuals, publishers and peers, should take the form of a statement of less than 200 words on why the work could be considered the best piece of innovative theoretical research in International Relations, from the previous year.  Nominations can be made by email submission through to April 2, 2013 to the CAIT Administrator, Joanna Wood: cait@sussex.ac.uk.  Nominated books must also arrive by this date. Call for Nominations: Chadwick F. Alger Book Prize

Nominations are now being accepted for the Chadwick F. Alger Prize. The prize recognizes the best book published in the previous calendar year on the subject of international organization and multilateralism. The prize is awarded annually by the International Organization Section of the International Studies Association. The Award Committee is particularly interested in works dealing with the United Nations and/or with how international organizations interact with nongovernmental organizations and other local civil society actors, as reflected in the writings of Chadwick F. Alger. Nominations should be received by December 15, 2012. Please see the prize website for more information.

Call for Nominations: William M. LeoGrande Prize

The School of Public Affairs and the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University are pleased to announce the establishment of the William M. LeoGrande Prize for the best book on U.S.-Latin American relations. This $1,000 prize will be awarded annually to the author or editor of a book published in Spanish, English or Portuguese during the preceding two years.  Prizewinners also will be funded to take part in a public presentation and discussion of the book in Washington DC.  Nominations for the 2012 award will be accepted until November 15, 2012. Nominations must include one copy of the book and a letter of no more than 750 words explaining its significance.  Any published reviews and/or copies of evaluations by peer reviewers may be submitted as supporting materials.  Please see the AWARD WEBSITE (PDF) for more information.

CFN: Carl Beck Award

The award committee invites nominations for the Carl Beck Award. This award is presented on an annual basis to a graduate student for his or her paper in the field of International Studies. Carl Beck was aware that the field of international relations faced difficult new challenges. To respond to those challenges it must be adaptive and innovative, open to new ideas, perspectives and approaches. The Committee therefore looks for original papers that deal with traditional concerns in new and interesting ways or with emergent international conditions and problems. Nominations should be sent to the chair of the Carl Beck Award Committee by October 20, 2012. Please see the award website for more information.

Call for Nominations: Robert W. and Jessie Cox Award

Established in 1997, the International Studies Association Robert W. and Jessie Cox Award honors the best graduate student paper of critical inquiry into international relations. The purpose of the award is to encourage critical study of international political economy, world orders, and civilizations. Papers submitted should relate, broadly, to the main normative principles for which the Coxes stand, including: diffusion of power; democratization; mutual respect for distinct civilizations, concern for the biosphere; and, greater equality among societies, genders, and races. The winner will receive a $500.00 cash prize and a plaque at the awards presentations at the annual ISA conference in San Francisco in April 2013. Graduate students are invited to submit their papers for the competition themselves. In addition, department chairs, program directors, deans, chairs of sessions at ISA annual or regional meetings, or from chairs of sessions at other meetings of international studies associations are invited and encouraged to nominate submissions. Call for Nominations: IPE Section Best Dissertation Award

The International Studies Association's International Political Economy Section invites nominations for the IPE Section Best Dissertation Award. The Section seeks to recognize the best dissertation completed and accepted in the previous two years (2010-2012 for the 2013 award) in the field of international political economy. A ten page summary of the dissertation along with the nomination letter from the dissertation committee chair/member should be emailed to the IPE Dissertation Award Committee latest by October 1, 2012. The winner will be announced at the IPE section meeting in San Francisco in April 2013 and will receive a framed certificate and check for $100. Nominations are due by October 1, 2012. Call for Nominations: Deborah Gerner Innovative Teaching Award

The International Studies Association invites nominations (including self-nominations) for the Annual Deborah "Misty" Gerner Innovative Teaching Award. This permanent ISA award honors the legacy of Misty Gerner as not only a fine scholar, but also as a passionate and dedicated teacher.  To carry her memory and mission forward, Rowman & Littlefield Publishers and the editorial board of the New Millennium Books in International Studies series have established this award.  It will be granted annually to an instructor who has developed new or significantly refined effective teaching in the discipline.  In keeping with Misty's interests and the goals of the New Millennium Book Series, emphasis will be on pedagogy that engages students with issues of war, peace, identity, sovereignty, security; sustainable economic and environmental development; and ethical concerns as they are evolving in the 21st century.

The award carries a $500 stipend.  It will be presented at the ISA awards ceremony at the Annual Convention by a Rowman & Littlefield representative and a member of the awards committee.

Nominations should include a current C.V. of the nominee and a cover letter that describes the nominee's teaching achievements. Call for Nominations: Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development

Nominations are invited for the The Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development. This grant is awarded by the Women's Caucus of International Studies (WCIS) and sponsored by Lynne Rienner Publishers. Funds from this grant may be used to support any legitimate professional development need identified by the candidate. Some examples of possible uses include the following: (a) Travel to a professional meeting, (b) travel to conduct interviews, work with a colleague on a collaborative project, or field research, (c) purchase of databases, software, books, or other materials needed for research, or (d) participation in an appropriate pedagogy workshop or institute. Please note: These are just examples, other documented professional development needs will also be considered. Nominations are due by October 15, 2012.
