ISA 2012 Withdrawal Deadline

For those of you who have yet to decide if you are attending the ISA Annual Convention in 2012, Monday, Nov. 21st, is the withdrawal deadline, no refunds will be issued after midnight Monday. ISA 2012 Convention Hotels Update

A quick update on the status of the hotels for our 2012 Annual Convention. Our room block at the Hilton Bayfront has sold out. The Hilton Gaslamp is now accepting room reservations at our discounted room rate. When our room block at the Gaslamp is full we will open the Marriott Marquis for reservations. Please see our hotels page for information on how to reserve your room at the Gaslamp.

Hotel Update for ISA 2012

A quick update on the status of our host hotels for the 2012 ISA Annual Convention. The ISA group room block at the Hilton Bayfront is 99% full.  If you are unable to obtain the ISA group rate during your preferred dates, please select the Hilton Gaslamp hotel, they are now accepting reservations at our discounted group rate. Participant Registration Deadline for ISA 2012

Today is the participant registration deadline for the ISA 2012 Annual Convention in San Diego. We ask all of those who have been accepted on the program to register today by 12 pm PST (midnight) so that the program chairs may finalize their work on the program. When scholars make a firm commitment to attend and signal this by registering early it improves the conference experience for all by making sure panels are fully formed and also allowing the program chairs to replace those who can't attend with the many worthy scholars whose proposals were placed on the wait list. Our staff is standing by to assist any participants with their registration and we have placed multiple registration methods on our website here. New Innovative Panel at ISA 2012 Annual Convention

ISA will offer a unique teaching and learning innovative panel on the theme From Virtual to Real: Simulating Conflict Dynamics in a Global Information Age. Registration is now open for participation in this innovative panel to occur in two parts: first, participants will meet on Facebook for several sessions to be scheduled from January to March 2012. As part of a global online simulation, participants will represent political leaders in the Arab-Israel conflict, powers outside the region, and international organizations, to help create foreign policy goals and plan strategic options representing their group's interests. Next, at the ISA Annual Conference in San Diego, participants will work, face-to-face, in a conflict management role, to address the issues developed in the first part of the simulation. This will be done as a part of a special innovative panel session on Monday, April 2nd, 2012 from 4:00 - 5:45pm. This panel has been organized by Hemda Ben-Yehuda, Chanan Naveh & Luba Levin-Banchik, Political Studies Dept., Bar Ilan University & School of Communication, Sapir College, Israel. ISA Workshop Deadline Reminder

Deadline reminder - the deadline to apply for an ISA workshop grant is July 31, 2011. This program supports workshops offering innovative and collaborative research involving scholars drawn from the global international studies community. Workshops will be held in conjunction with the 2012 ISA Annual Convention in San Diego, CA, April 1-4. Please see the workshops website for more information.

Annual Convention Proposal Deadline

Today is the last day to submit a paper or panel proposals for the 2012 Annual Convention. Our next convention will be held at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel, right on San Diego Bay and just minutes from the downtown Gaslamp District. For the full call for papers, see the ISA 2012 website. Here are some brief answers to common questions:

• When exactly is the proposal deadline? We will accept proposals until the end of the day, 11:59 PM PST, on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. 
• Do I have to confirm my participation in MyISA today? No, this is the proposal deadline, not the confirmation deadline. We will send an e-mail to all participants over the summer inviting them to confirm their willingness to participate.
• Can I provide an outline of a panel and then recruit participants over the summer? Panel proposers must provide complete information (title, abstract, authors, chair, discussant) for all papers and participants to be included on the panel.
• I'm working on a proposal and the system won't let me add a participant, it says they have reached their participation limit, what do I do? ISA policy restricts participation on the convention program to four (4) placements and will prevent more than two (2) paper presentations and more than (4) total placements. First, work with the participant and ask if they would like to edit their participations so as to include your proposal. If you feel the system is in error pleace contact ISA. 
• My proposal is ready to submit but the system won't accept it, how can I submit it? Please review the requirements box on the right side of your proposal form, it keeps a running tally of your progress. A green check mark will indicate that the requirement has been completed. Bold text will indicate a requirement yet to be completed. For example, if it says Tags (2-10) in bold like this: Tags (2-10) then you need to add tags or remove tags to fall within the required range.

CFP: ISA Annual Convention 2012

The program chairs invite paper and panel proposals for the 2012 ISA Annual Convention to be held in San Diego, CA, April 1-4, 2012, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Proposals are invited on the convention theme: Power, Principles and Participation in the Global Information Age. Proposals should be submitted online and be received by June 1, 2011. The Annual Convention: What To Know Onsite

We recently posted a special list of items that we are calling "What To Know Onsite" to our Annual Convention website that we hope will be of help when you arrive in Montreal. This list includes helpful information on: travel & transport, currency exchange, convention registration and check-in, where events are located, hotel services (included coat check, luggage check, networking spaces and lounges), ISA awards and receptions, travel grant award info, tips for first-time attendees (including info on what to wear), and tips on what to see and where to dine in Montreal.  We hope you will find this list to be helpful and informative.

Annual Convention: Before You Leave

Here is a list of helpful tips to check off before you leave for Montreal:

• Travel: Ensure that your travel plans are in order including: passport, travel visa (if required), hotel guest room reservation (and confirmation number) and plane tickets (boarding passes)
• Weather: ISA panels/events are occurring in 3 different hotels (the Sheraton, Fairmont and Marriott), within a 4-5 minute walk of each other - we recommend you check the weather prior to departure
• ISA Registration: Review your Convention Registration to ensure that ISA has received your registration information and fee
• Coordinate with Panel: Be sure to coordinate with your panel chair about presentation length and ensure that the panel discussant(s) has received your paper (contact information for your panel(s) can be obtained from the detail tab to the left of your panels in the My Program area of MyISA)
• Upload Paper: To ISA Paper Archive no later than 1 week prior to your scheduled panel(s)
• Flashdrive: Be sure to bring your presentation (Windows compatible) on a flashdrive for your panel session (PDF or Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 ONLY, a Windows netbook is set up on-site in each panel room)
• Revisit Online Program: To check for any last minute panel/meeting changes to the program and take advantage of MyISA's option to search and build your own program schedules
