CFP: Crossing Boundaries in Crisis Communication

The organizers invite proposals for the Third International Conference on Crisis Communication, October 2-5, 2013, at the ComCenter Brühl in Erfurt, Germany. Contributions that present innovative perspectives on international and/or cross-cultural crisis communication are welcome. In addition, papers should offer conceptual and/or empirical approaches to crisis communication that cross institutional, disciplinary, or epistemological ‘boundaries’. All theoretical perspectives and methodologies are welcome. However, special consideration will be given to cross-national/cross-cultural comparative research. Abstracts should state the title of the presentation, purpose, theoretical approach, methodology, (expected) findings, implications, relevance, and originality of the study. Author and affiliation details are to be included separately in the paper submission system. Abstracts have to be submitted until April 15, 2013. Fellowship: Cadieux-Léger Fellowship

The Policy Staff at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) is seeking applications for the 2013-2014 Cadieux-Léger Fellowship. The Cadieux-Léger Fellowship is a long tradition within DFAIT which brings outside perspectives and new ideas to our research and to policy development. The Fellow, a PhD student, joins the Policy Staff for a period of nine months and will receive a total sum not greater than $48,000. While at DFAIT, the Fellow is expected to advance Canadian foreign policy and the Policy Staff's research agenda. All applications must be submitted online by April 12, 2013. Call for Applicants: Summer Institute in Political Psychology

Stanford University invites applicants for the 21st Annual Summer Institute in Political Psychology (SIPP), to be held at Stanford July 14 to August 3, 2013. The SIPP program takes up to 60 participants and is filling up quickly though there are still some spots available. The Summer Institute offers three weeks of intensive training in political psychology. SIPP activities will include lectures by world-class faculty, discussion groups, research/interest group meetings, group projects, and an array of social activities. In 2013, SIPP will accept up to 60 participants, including graduate students, faculty, professionals, and advanced undergraduates. CFP: 7th International Turkish - Asian Congress

The Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies (TASAM) and Central Asian Research Center at Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University (ORASAM-KTMU) invite proposals for the 7th International Turkish - Asian Congress to be held 13-14 June 2013 in Bishkek-Kyrgyzstan. Proposals are invited on the conference theme Energy, Water and Food Security in Asia. The problems related to energy, water and food are required more international cooperation than any other problem. The Asian Congress aims to create a continental based consciousness with regards to energy, water and food security, intellectual contribution to the resolution of conflicts and development of cooperation and interaction among Asian countries on energy, water and food policies. CFP: Brazilian Journal of International Politics

Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional – RBPI (Brazilian Journal of International Politics) will publish in March 2014 a special issue organized by Henrique Altemani de Oliveira, Professor of International Relations at the State University of Paraíba. This special issue aims to evaluate the state of the Chinese presence in the international system and its relationships with major powers, with regions and with regional powers, with larger emphasis in the political and diplomatic aspects. Thus, we welcome submissions focused on the following thematic axes: China’s Foreign Policy (peaceful rise; harmonious world; China threat; Beijing Consensus; South-South cooperation; strategic partnership); China's role in the reorganization of international and regional security; China as global actor; China as a rising power with hegemonic aspirations; China as regional actor; bilateral/plurilateral relationship with the major powers, regions and regional or emergent powers; China in multilateral institutions (UN/SC, WTO, BRICS, G20, IADB). All submissions should be original and unpublished, must be in the range of 50.000 characters (including spaces and footnotes) must be written in English (is is necessary to be fully correct English for non natives of the language), including an abstract of less then 70 words (and 3 key-words in English), following the Chicago System. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2013. Submissions must be submitted online.

CFP: Japan Studies Association Journal

The editors of the Japan Studies Association Journal (JSAJ) invite submissions, inquiries, and proposals, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary, on any topic related to Japan for the next volume. JSAJ is a peer reviewed journal publishing articles that have Japan studies (both concerning the country and the people) as a specific focus or as a point of comparison in a discussion involving other countries. Papers that provide material useful to professors interested in incorporating information about Japan into their regular courses are especially appropriate. The journal is also interested in pedagogical "notes" on teaching Japan studies and in technology "notes" that provide information about Japan and analysis of articles, books, video, Internet, and other material for teaching Japan studies. CFP: Journal of Strategic Security

The Journal of Strategic Security (JSS), a publication of Henley-Putnam University, seeks manuscripts for an upcoming issue on intelligence analytic tradecraft, training, education, and practical application for the Fall 2013 issue, Vol. 6, No. 3. The Fall 2013 issue of JSS is a venue for authors to share ideas and exchange information about best practices and lessons learned in the field of intelligence studies. Papers could focus on intelligence-related topics that include discussion of the merits and shortcomings of various structured analytic techniques coupled with case studies.  Submissions might also propose new methods, tools, and applications of intelligence tradecraft in diverse environments.   Authors from business, government, and academic sectors are encouraged to submit their intelligence research for this issue of the Journal of Strategic Security. Manuscripts will also be considered that address how intelligence is utilized in a variety of cross-disciplinary domains, including: homeland security, law enforcement, military, state and local governments, academia, and the private sector. Hotel Reservation Cut-Off Deadline Approaching

Please note that the room reservation deadline for the overflow hotels at the Annual Convention is fast approaching. The cut-off date for Hotel Nikko and the Handlery is March 9th and the cut-off for the Hotel Manaco is March 11th. Our overflow hotels offer another option for our convention attendees who have yet to make room reservations. These hotels offer the same discounted room rates as our primary host hotels. Please see the convention hotel website for more information.  The 2013 ISA Annual Convention will take place from 3-6 April in San Francisco, CA. The Hilton San Francisco Union Square and the Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel are our host hotels.
