Conference: American Society of International Law

The organizers announce the 107th ASIL Annual Meeting will take place in Washington, DC from April 3-6, 2013. The conference theme is: International Law in a Multipolar World. With over a century of tradition and experience behind it, ASIL's Annual Meeting has become the most important gathering in the field of international law. More than 1,400 practitioners, academics, and students travel to Washington, DC, each spring from all over the world to debate and discuss the latest developments in their field. Registration is now open and room reservations are being taken by the conference host hotel. Please see the conference website for more information. ASIL is an ISA cooperating organization.

CFA: United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program

The United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program is now accepting applications. The program will be offered from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14, 2013, by the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and the United Nations Foundation – United Nations Association of the USA.  Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this unique program immerses participants in the political dynamics of the United Nations. The program is designed to familiarize students with the inner workings of the United Nations by bringing them together with distinguished practitioners working in the field of multilateral diplomacy. Applications should be submitted online by April 1, 2013.  Students will be notified of their status by April 15, 2013. Please see the program website for more information.

CFP: ICTIC 2013 Virtual Conference

ICTIC 2013 (March 25-29, 2013) is an International Virtual Conference organized by the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics at the University of Zilina in Slovakia. The conference will be held online as virtual conference. The aim of this conference is to provide a worldwide forum, where the international participants can share their research knowledge and ideas on the recent and latest research and map out the directions for future researchers and collaborations. Researchers and graduate students are welcomed to participate in the conference to exchange research findings. Proposals should be received by March 1, 2013. Member News: Herbert Kelman Awarded Gold Medal of Honor

Herbert C. Kelman, the Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics, Emeritus, at Harvard University, received the Gold Medal of Honor from the Federal Capital of Vienna, “in recognition of his significant achievements.” The medal was presented to him at a ceremony in Vienna’s City Hall on December 12, 2012. Professor Kelman was born in Vienna in 1927, escaped Nazi persecution with his family in 1939, and settled in the United States in 1940.

Global Constitutionalism Announces Online Edition

The journal Global Constitutionalism, published by Cambridge University Press in association with the Centre for Globalisation & Governance, announces that the first issue of 2013 is now available online. This edition is free of charge until the end of April. GCN Journal covers issues related to human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The online journal is available here.

CFP: The Politics of Indigenous Identity

The organizers invite paper proposals for the IPSA RC14 (Research Committee on Politics and Ethnicity) Conference to be held July 11-14, 2013, at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Proposals on the conference theme The Politics of Indigenous Identity: National and Global Perspectives are invited in the form of an abstract of no more than 400 words to be sent to the chair of the local organizing committee, Professor Stephanie Lawson. The deadline for paper proposals and receipt of abstracts is March 15, 2013 but those received earlier may be given priority. The deadline for full papers (of no more than 8,000 words) is June 15th, 2013. Please see the full call for more information.

CFP: Annual Convention of the Italian Political Science Association

The organizers invite proposals for the Annual Convention of the Italian Political Science Association, 12-14 September 2013, Florence, Italy. The convention theme is: Challenges to the Current World Order. The overarching objective of the Convention is not only to map the challenges to the current world order but also to understand the destructive potential of these challenges. In addition, in an attempt to better define the interconnectedness of the current world order and Western leadership, the meeting aims to understand whether some of these challenges may be destructive for the world order per se or only for US (and to lesser extent European) leadership. Thus, the organizers welcomes panels and papers employing both qualitative and quantitative methods of research and without geographic limitations. In the case of panel proposals indication of up to five papers is encouraged, however, not required at this stage.
