The organizers invite paper and panel proposals for the British International Studies Association (BISA) Annual Conference 2013 to be held at Brindley Place, Birmingham, UK, on the 20th & 21st of June. Proposals are invited on the conference theme: Beyond the Ivory Tower: IR and the Real World. The conference will consider a variety of research topics. How much impact do international studies have on the real world? Do scholars have a responsibility to address policy and political concerns? The “impact” agenda, promoted by the UK research councils and assessed in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, presupposes that scholars can and should make a difference beyond the ivory tower. The organizers invite participants to consider the ethical, methodological, and practical issues raised by the new emphasis on impact in academic research, and the implications for international studies. To encourage debate on the conference theme, BISA will sponsor a plenary panel of leading scholars in the field (to be announced shortly). Proposals should be submitted by December 3, 2012. Please see the conference website for more information.
