If you have been accepted to the program, please remember that you must register for the convention by midnight on  October 17, 2012 or you will be dropped from the program. There is an automatic $20.00 discount for registrations made online through MyISA. Please contact the program chairs (isa2013@isanet.org) if you have any questions about your placement on the program. The preliminary program is now online in MyISA. This is a dynamic program updated in real-time by the program chairs. We have also posted a PDF version of the program on ISA's public website (no login required) and it will be periodically updated. Finally, the Hilton has informed us that they are accepting room reservations at our discounted room rates, we have posted more information on the hotels page of the convention website.  Other hotel options will be provided when our room block at the Hilton is sold out. Virtual Issue: Foreign Policy in the U.S. Presidential Election

Our journal publisher, Wiley-Blackwell, is offering a free virtual issue with articles from five of our journals addressing the topic "Foreign Policy in the U.S. Presidential Election," available online here.  This special issue was compiled by the editor of Foreign Policy Analysis to provide the public greater access to scholarly thought on this important topic. The virtual issue is hosted by Wiley Online Library, the world's broadest and deepest multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science, and the humanities.

Japan Studies Assoc. CFP Extended

The program chairs announce that the proposal deadline has been extended for the Nineteenth Annual Conference of the Japan Studies Association to be held at Hawaii Tokai International College in Honolulu from January 3-5, 2013. The conference occurs annually at various locations throughout the United States, inviting nationally and internationally prominent personalities to give presentations concerning Japan. In addition, refereed papers are presented by qualified JSA members in multiple sessions. Papers presented at the conference regularly appear in the Japan Studies Assocation Journal. Proposals may be submitted to Program Chairs Dr. Tom Campbell, Wabash College (USA), and Dr. Maggie Ivanova, Flinders University (Australia) at the address shown on the online form. The deadline to submit proposals for individual papers or group sessions is October 20, 2012. Details about the 2013 conference are posted on the Association's website.

Conference: War & Memory

The hosts invite attendance at a conference on War & Memory: Bearing Witness to Loss in Everyday Life, to be held October 19 and 20, 2012 at the University of Oregon and presented by the Oregon Review of International Law. Political violence, state terror, exceptionalism, and the traumatic effects of war are the focus of this interdisciplinary symposium. The keynote speaker will be Arturo Arias, University of Texas, Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the featured speaker will be Kate Doyle. CFP: The Future of Development Lending

The editors invite submissions for an edited volume with the working title: The Future of Development Lending: A Gendered Analysis of Social Policy, Neoliberal Globalization and Survival Migration. This volume will bring together gendered analyses of the methods, assumptions, intentions, and consequences of current practices. A gendered analysis of each will provide remedial – possibly innovative – alternatives to existing practices. The articles within this volume will assess the conditions that continue to exist in developing countries despite the claim that the 2008 economic crisis marked the end of western imposition of policies and programs of austerity that had for 30 years promoted neoliberal economic development. One central question is whether the leaders of developing countries will maintain control of development policymaking and what this transition might mean for women and the dis-empowered in the developing world. Those interested in submitting an essay for inclusion in the volume should send an email indicating interest and an abstract to isacallforpapers@bloomu.edu. Completed drafts should be received by December 15, 2012.

Deadline Reminder: First Global South International Studies Conference

The conference chair sends this reminder that today is the deadline to register for the the First Global South International Studies Conference to be held November 29-30 & December 1, 2012 at the campus of Sciences Po in Menton, France. The conference is co-sponsored by the International Studies Association’s Global South Caucus and the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). The conference theme is "Sharing Insights and Ideas: Theorizing, Teaching, Research, and Publishing on the Global South." The conference will be devoted to developing theoretical ideas appropriate to studying the international relations and foreign policy of the global south as well as to sharing teaching, learning and publishing experiences and methods--perceived shortcomings as well as strengths—related to the study of the south by scholars/students from the north and south.
