CFP: 8th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science, IR and Public Policy

The conveners announce the call for the 8th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy in memory of Yitzhak Rabin, to be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, December 12-14 2012. The conveners invite proposals from graduate students as well as recent PhDs based in Israel and abroad who work in the fields of Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy, as well as related fields such as Politics and Law, Political History, Political Economy, Political Geography, Political Philosophy, Political Psychology, Political Sociology and Political Communication. CFP: 2012 ISA-West Annual Meeting

Please note the new extended deadline of July 20th: The 2012 ISA-West Annual Meeting, co-sponsored this year by the ISA International Ethics Section, will be held October 19-20 at the Pasadena Hilton in the heart of Pasadena, California. We invite paper, panel, and roundtable proposals on any aspect of international studies, including those related to pedagogy within the discipline. We especially welcome proposals related to this year’s theme, Climate Change and Human Security.  The predicted impact of climate change on human societies has been a topic of wide-ranging discussion for some years.  While there are still "climate deniers" who argue that climate change is not happening or is not resulting from human activity, groups such as the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have issued a series of reports detailing predictions for the future in areas of food security, fresh water availability and access, health and the spread/migration of disease, and effects on coastal areas due to rising sea levels and increased storm severity.  All of these will have significant consequences on human societies; many will lead to life-threatening challenges for various populations around the world. Proposals must be submitted via MyISA. The deadline for the submission of proposals is July 20, 2012. Call for Nominations: International Ethics Book Award

The International Ethics Section of ISA invites nominations for the Best Book Award competition. The Section will will award one prize of $200 for the best book published in the field of international ethics. The award recognizes a book that excels in originality, significance and rigor in the broadly defined field of international ethics. The subject matter of the book can be, but is not limited to, international descriptive ethics, international normative ethics, metaethics, comparative ethics, international religious ethics, international political theory, and international legal theory. ISA Cooperating Organization: The American Society of International Law

ISA announces that the American Society of International Law (ASIL) has been granted Cooperating Organization status with ISA.  Founded in 1906, ASIL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization.  ASIL’s mission is to foster the study of international law and to promote the establishment and maintenance of international relations on the basis of law and justice.  The Society’s nearly 4,000 members (from more than 100 countries) comprise attorneys, academics, judges, students, and others interested in international law. Cooperating Organizations are a network of international studies groups accredited by ISA to promote contacts among specialists and practitioners and facilitate scientific and cultural exchange. Some Cooperating Organizations receive a quota of panels at our Annual Convention and our international conferences. We look forward to working with ASIL to promote our shared goals.

American Academy in Berlin Residential Fellowships

The American Academy in Berlin invites applications for residential fellowships for 2013-14. The Academy welcomes applications from emerging and established scholars, and from writers and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin. Approximately 26 Berlin Prizes are conferred annually. Past recipients have included historians, economists, poets and novelists, journalists, legal scholars, anthropologists, musicologists, and public policy experts, among others. The Academy does not award fellowships in the natural sciences. Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester or, on occasion, for an entire academic year. Bosch Fellowships in Public Policy may be awarded for shorter stays of six to eight weeks. Fellowship benefits include round-trip airfare, partial board, a $5,000 monthly stipend, and accommodations at the Academy’s lakeside Hans Arnhold Center in the Berlin-Wannsee district. Fellowships are restricted to individuals based permanently in the United States.  The deadline is Friday, September 28, 2012. Applications may be submitted online or mailed to the Berlin office. Call for Nominations: Karl Deutsch Award

ISA invites nominations for the Karl Deutsch Award. The award was established in 1981 to recognize scholars in IR under age 40, or within ten years of defending their dissertation. The Karl Deutsch Award is presented annually to a scholar who is judged to have made (through a body of publications) the most significant contribution to the study of International Relations and Peace Research. Nominations should be sent by e-mail to the award committee by August 1, 2012. Please see the award website for more information.

Call for Papers: Asia Pacific Conference

The Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies (RCAPS), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) would like to announce its Call for Presenters for the 2012 Annual Asia Pacific Conference to be held December 7-9, 2012 in Beppu City, Oita, Japan. Every year, the Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies (RCAPS) holds an international Asia Pacific Conference (AP Conference) aiming at becoming a Center of Excellence. This year’s AP Conference will consist of two parts. One part will be a “Graduate Student Workshop” and the other part will consist of regular panel sessions. The two parts will simultaneously take place on the APU Campus with overlapping schedules. The theme for the workshop is “Disaster Management and Japan”, and the theme for the regular panel sessions is study fields relating to the Asia Pacific.
