CFA: Summer Institute in Political Psychology

Applications are being accepted now for the 20th Annual Summer Institute in Political Psychology (SIPP), to be held at Stanford University July 15 to August 4, 2012. SIPP was founded in 1991 at Ohio State University, and Stanford has hosted SIPP since 2005, with support from Stanford University and from the National Science Foundation. The Summer Institute offers three weeks of intensive training in political psychology.  Political psychology is an exciting and thriving field that explores the origins of political behavior and the causes of political events, with a special focus on the psychological mechanisms at work. In 2012, SIPP will accept up to 60 participants, including graduate students, faculty, professionals, and advanced undergraduates. CFP: Social Media, Digital Entertainment, Governance & Social Movements

The organizers invite proposals for the Chinese Internet Research Conference (CIRC) to be held on May 21-23, 2012, in Los Angeles. Hosted by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, the conference will will examine the ways in which the Internet and other technologies interact with Chinese cultural and social life. The organizers welcome contributions from all and disciplines that seek to address these themes. This interdisciplinary conference will bring together scholars, analysts, industry leaders, journalists and legal practitioners from around the world to examine the impact of the Internet on Chinese societies, its social, cultural, political and economic aspects, as well as how China is changing the Internet. All proposals will be peer reviewed. Submissions should be sent via e-mail to chinainternet10@gmail.com by March 10, 2012. CFP: History and the "New" Middle East and Africa

The Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) invites proposals for their 5th Annual Conference taking place October 11-13, 2012 at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. Papers on the conference theme History and the "New" Middle East and Africa are invited from members of any discipline, tenured or untenured faculty or those otherwise affiliated with a recognized research institution.  Unique proposals from senior graduate students (ABD) will also be considered. Abstracts on topics related to the Middle East and Africa should consist of a one-page outline of the proposed subject to be presented. A recent C.V. and all contact data must be attached to the proposal (name, e-mail, phone number, affiliation). The due date for proposals is Tuesday, May 15, 2012. CFP: Rethinking Asia and International Relations

Ashgate Publishing invites proposals for a new series Rethinking Asia and International Relations, edited by Emilian Kavalski, University of Western Sydney, Australia. The series seeks to provide thoughtful consideration both of the growing prominence of Asian actors on the global stage and the changes in the study and practice of world affairs that they provoke. The editors seek interdisciplinary research monographs undertaking comparative studies of Asian actors and their impact on the current patterns and likely future trajectories of international relations. CFA: IPSA-NUS Summer School for Research Methods

The International Political Science Association and the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore are proud to announce the first IPSA-NUS Summer School for Research Methods in Social and Political Science. The first event of its kind in Asia, the Summer School will take place from June 25 to July 6, 2012, at the National University of Singapore. It offers intensive training in advanced social science research methods. All courses are directed by outstanding international faculty from the U.S. and Europe with experience of teaching at similar events. The Summer School is intended primarily for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty working in the social sciences, but is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their quantitative or qualitative research skills. CFA: CEU Announces Summer Course on Comparative Regionalisms

CEU's summer school invites applications from graduate students, junior faculty, researchers and practitioners to participate in the Summer Course “Comparative Regionalisms: Changing Forms of Governance in Asia, Africa and the Americas and the Effects on the World Order” at Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary, July 2-12, 2012. The course fosters new approaches to the study of regionalisms in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Building on, but seeking to go beyond the European experience the course examines the rise of regions after World War II and the resurgence of the idea in and from the 1980s. It considers the different interpretations, values and expectations assigned to ‘region’, from regional free trade agreements to security communities to supra-national integrative projects. The course will examine how such regions vary across time and geography, assuming different characteristics, and will also consider to what extent regions are a result of and/or a response to globalization and the extent to which they constitute and shape global order. Conference: Protecting Human Rights

The Steering Committee of the American Political Science Association (APSA) Human Rights Section, the Council of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) Human Rights Research Committee, and the Executive Council of the International Studies Association (ISA) Human Rights Section announce their second joint international conference on the theme “Protecting Human Rights: Duties and Responsibilities of States and Non-State Actors” to take place on 18-19 June 2012 at the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland, hosted by the Glasgow Human Rights Network. The conference format will be a mixture of small panels (no more than 3 papers) with plenary keynote sessions. Please see the conference website for more information.

CFA: Fulbright Scholar Program

Applications are now open for the Fulbright Scholar Program. The core Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Under a cooperative agreement with the Bureau, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) assists in the administration of the Fulbright Scholar Program for faculty and professionals. Applications are available online and should be received by August 1, 2012.

CFP: Rethinking the Grand Strategy of the European Union

The organizers invite proposals for a conference on “Rethinking the Grand Strategy of the European Union” to be held at Loughborough University, 24-26 May 2012. Proposals are welcome from both advanced research postgraduate students and established researchers. The broad aim of the conference is to explore the ways in which the external strategies of the EU contribute to the development of its international role and impact in a turbulent world, and the ways in which they are connected to the internal development of the European integration project. The conference is generously funded by the Centre for the Study of International Governance (CSIG) at the Department of Politics, History and International Relations, Loughborough University. CFP: The Social and the Political in Discourses of State-Building

The Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster announces a Post-Graduate conference on “The Social and the Political in Discourses of State-Building” to be convened on the 27th of April 2012. This conference, aimed specifically at post- graduate students, aims to discuss and analyze the shift from the political/legal discussions of humanitarian intervention, prevalent in the 1990s, to sociological discussions of state-building intervention today.
