CFA: International Policy Summer Institute

The Bridging the Gap Project announces the Second Annual International Policy Summer Institute (IPSI), to be held June 10-15, 2012, in Washington DC. IPSI is a weeklong professional development program for professors (all ranks) and post-docs in international affairs who seek to build the tools and networks to produce and disseminate policy-relevant academic research. The Institute will deliver an intensive curriculum designed to teach participants how to develop and articulate their research for a policy audience, what policy-makers are looking for when they look to IR scholarship, whom to target when sharing research, and which tools and avenues of dissemination are appropriate. IPSI will also provide a forum for scholars to develop professional networks with their colleagues in the discipline and with the broader policy community. CFP: Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies

The Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies will hold its annual meeting at American University in Washington, DC from March 22-24, 2012.  The theme of this year’s conference is “Latin America: Hopes, Dreams and Reality after the Washington Consensus.”  The Program Committee invites faculty, students, and practitioners to submit individual papers and panel proposals that illustrate how the people and the countries of Latin America are responding to current challenges in light of the region’s cultural, political and economic heritage and within the changing international economic and political environment. Papers dealing with all aspects of Latin American studies are welcome. You may submit a 250-word abstract for individual papers or complete panel proposals (one 250 word abstract for the panel) in English or Spanish by December 21, 2011 to Program Director Jim Baer at maclasproposal@gmail.com. Holiday Closure

CFP: Contemporary European Studies Conference

The organizers invite proposals for panels and papers for the 42nd Annual Conference of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES), taking place in Passau, Germany from 3-5 September 2012. The three-day event will be hosted by the Department for Cultural Studies at the University of Passau. During the conference, we'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Common Market Studies. Proposals from all areas of contemporary European Studies from across academic disciplines including law, economics, geography, history, sociology, public policy and politics. Proposals are welcome from established academics, practitioners and well-prepared doctoral students. The deadline for submission of panels and papers is 20 January 2012. CFP: Spectrum: Journal of Global Studies

Spectrum: Journal of Global Studies invites academicians and scholars to submit articles and discussion pieces scripts for upcoming issues. Spectrum is a peer reviewed journal run by the students of the Department of International Relations of the Middle East Technical University (METU). The journal is currently being published two times a year. All articles are subject to review by anonymous referees specified by our Editorial Board. The editors are interested in publishing articles that relate to current theoretical disputes within international relations theory, international political economy, international political theory and historical sociology. The approximate length required for main articles is 7,000-9,000 words, for discussion pieces 5,000 words and for review articles 4,000 words. Inclusion of an abstract of approximately 200 words with 5 key words is also required. Articles should be sent in electronic form as an MS Word file in an e-mail attachment to tunahan.kucukcelebi@spectrumjournal.net. Please see the journal website for more information.

ISA 2012 Withdrawal Deadline

For those of you who have yet to decide if you are attending the ISA Annual Convention in 2012, Monday, Nov. 21st, is the withdrawal deadline, no refunds will be issued after midnight Monday. CFP: Santa Barbara Global Studies Conference

The Orfalea Center for Global & International Studies and faculty of the G&IS program at UC Santa Barbara announce a call for papers and panels for an academic conference to be held at UCSB on February 24-25, 2012, on the general theme of 'Crisis.' Established scholars and graduate students are invited to submit a paper abstract or panel proposal on the theme of crisis as a salient feature of current global conditions. The conference invites papers and panels that engage with crisis from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives from across the humanities and social sciences. Proposals should include a 200-300 word abstract for a 15-20 minute presentation, along with a completed registration form to sbgsc@orfaleacenter.ucsb.edu. ISA 2012 Convention Hotels Update

A quick update on the status of the hotels for our 2012 Annual Convention. Our room block at the Hilton Bayfront has sold out. The Hilton Gaslamp is now accepting room reservations at our discounted room rate. When our room block at the Gaslamp is full we will open the Marriott Marquis for reservations. CFP: 7th Annual American Graduate School in Paris (AGS) Graduate Student Conference

The organizers invite proposals for the 7th Annual American Graduate School in Paris (AGS) Graduate Student Conference, April 19-20, 2011, Paris, France, on the theme The Roles and Challenges of Diplomacy in the 21st Century: Inclusion and Exclusion in a Globalized World. The research may be of either a theoretical or empirical nature. While the purview of this conference focuses on the effect of emerging challenges on diplomacy, relevant abstract proposals on work contributing in a broader sense to the debate will be considered. The conference will be held in English. Submitted work should also follow this guideline. Proposals up to 600 words in length should be sent by no later than February 20, 2012 in to conference@ags.edu. For more information please see the conference website.
