CFP: China and Japan in Modern Economic Growth

The organizers invite papers proposals for a conference sponsored and organised by New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre at Victoria University and Asia Institute at Auckland University, New Zealand, 5-6 December 2011. The conference theme is: Growing Pains and Growth Paths: China and Japan in Modern Economic Growth. CFP: Building a Secure World Through International Education

AIEA invites the submission of proposals for its 2012 conference on the theme Building a Secure World Through International Education. The conference will convene at JW Marriott in Washington DC on Feb 19-22, 2012. Pre-conference workshops will be held February 19-20.  The conference will begin in the afternoon of February 20 and end in the afternoon of February 22. Post-Doctoral Fellowships, University of Tartu

The University of Tartu announces new post-dcotoral fellowships. The University (the Faculties and the Centre for EU-Russia Studies) acts as a host institution for post-doctoral fellowships awarded by the Estonian Science Foundation (ERMOS and MOBILITAS) and is also prepared to act as a host institution for Marie Curie fellowships awarded by the European Commission (both the Intra-European Fellowships and the International Incoming Fellowships). Prospective applicants interested in a postdoc position affiliated with the Centre of EU-Russia Studies are encouraged to contact Piret Ehin, Director of the Centre, at piret.ehin@ut.ee. The Department of Development Sociology at Cornell University, in conjunction with the Development Sociology section-in-formation of the American Sociological Association, is organizing a conference on “Rethinking Development” to be held 10 - 12 November 2011 at the ILR Conference Center on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, NY. The organizers welcome abstracts from all, including scholars, activists, organizers and policy-makers. Visiting Scholar Grants, University of Tartu

The Centre for EU-Russia Studies maintains a visiting scholar scheme and welcomes applications from individual researchers based outside of Estonia who wish to visit the University of Tartu for purposes of research, teaching, or institutional collaboration. Transatlantic Conference on Academia & the Public Sphere

The organizers invite attendance at a conference on Transatlantic Conference on Academia & the Public Sphere to be held at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), Berlin, Germany, September 16-17, 2011. Leading scholars from both sides of the Atlantic who have studied the history and public mission of their disciplines will analyze the historical transformation of the public role of their professions both comparatively and critically. The conference is sponsored by the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), The Young Academy at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (BGSS) at Humboldt University, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and the Institute for Public Knowledge (IPK) at New York University. CFP: China and International Security

The editors announce a call for contributors for a three-volume book set on “China and International Security: History, Strategy, and 21st Century Policy.” This book set, published Praeger, is intended to provide an authoritative resource for scholars and policymakers. Authors are invited to send submissions of original, unpublished one-page proposals (for 5,000 to 7,000-word chapters) along with brief biographies (including full contact information) to Chief Editor Donovan C. Chau, Ph.D. <dchau@csusb.edu>. In particular, the editors seek proposals that examine: Chinese strategic thought; the Communist Party of China; and, the People’s Liberation Army. Proposals should be received by October 1, 2011.

CFP: International Graduate Student Conference

The program chairs announce that two new workshops that have been added to the Call for Papers for the 7th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science,  International Relations and Public Policy in memory of Yitzhak Rabin, that will be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem between December 14-16 2011. Globalization, Regionalization and the Changing Architecture of Government, lead by Professor Alasdair Roberts and Professor David Levi-Faur and Jewish Political Thought lead by Professor Dan Avnon and Dr. Moshe Hellinger, have been added to the program. CIGI-INET’s Fall 2011 Grant Program

The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) are accepting research proposals for their Fall 2011 Grant Program, with grants ranging in value from $25,000 to $250,000. CIGI and INET are calling for new research proposals in areas of vital importance to the field of economics, including economic linkages, global interdependencies, sustainable economics and economic history. The initial proposals for grants are due by September 15, 2011, and the process will culminate in mid-December 2011 with the announcement of grant recipients.
