CFA: International Afghanistan Student Conference 2011

The German Atlantic Association is looking for exceptional students and young professionals from Afghanistan, Pakistan or ISAF Countries who have a strong interest in Afghanistan and the region. When diplomats and politicians gather in Bonn to discuss the future of Afghanistan in December, 60 students from ISAF countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan will have a chance to do the same – just a few meters away. Based on first-hand information from and discussions with conference participants and independent experts, students work on original solutions on the many challenges facing Afghanistan today. The Afghanistan Student Conference will take place in Bonn, Germany on December 4-7, 2011. Full board and lodging will be provided and your active participation can be supported by a limited allowance up to €200. Applications are invited from exceptional studenta and young professionals, aged 20-30 who have a strong interest in Afghanistan and the region. Studies and/or experience in the fields of international relations, development cooperation, defense/security, journalism, international business, and academia are desirable. Call for Editors: World Political Science

The journal World Political Science publishes prize-winning articles nominated by political science associations around the world and translated into English. Published by Berkeley Electronic Press for the International Political Science Association (IPSA), the journal is in its seventh year of publication. As an agenda-setting journal, World Political Science provides a bridge to the highest quality political science produced outside the English-speaking world. IPSA is actively seeking applicants for a new WPS editorial team, to be composed of three to five political scientists holding a position at a college or university anywhere in the world. The editorial team will be required to fulfill a three-year mandate, with a possible renewal for a second three-year term. International Society of Political Psychology Annual Conference

The annual meeting of the International Society of Political Psychology will convene in Istanbul from 9 - 12 July 2011. The conference theme "Cooperation and Human Societies: Towards a Multidisciplinary Political Psychology" reflects growing interdisciplinary evidence of cooperation as a critical foundation for the development of human societies. Frequently, political psychology has focused on the negative aspects of human nature, examining the political implications of intergroup conflict, violence, nationalism, prejudice, and discrimination. Yet across numerous social science subfields including evolutionary psychology, developmental psychology, political economy, political theory, and social psychology there is growing awareness of the pervasiveness of human cooperation and its centrality to group life. Participants are asked to consider how conflict and cooperation are opposing but omnipresent and often co-existing features of human societies. World Poverty Briefings

The Brooks World Poverty Institute at the University of Manchester has published a new policy briefing on equity and growth in India. The Institute's one-page briefings aim to provide researchers and policy makers with clear, quickly accessible information on recent and ongoing research on global poverty. Call for Nominations: ISSS Best Graduate Student Paper Competition

Nominations are being accepted for the International Security Studies Section (ISSS) best graduate student paper award. Papers presented at the March 2011 ISA conference and the ISSS/ISAC conference (to be held in Irvine, CA in October 2011) are eligible for submission. Nominations (with an e-copy of the paper) normally come from faculty supervisors and mentors as well as panel chairs or discussants at the above mentioned conferences and should include a one paragraph justification. Call for Nominations: SWIPE Mentor Award

The International Political Economy Section of ISA invites nominations for the SWIPE Mentor Award recognizing excellent mentoring in the field of international political economy. The Society for Women in International Political Economy (SWIPE) created the award in 1997 to pay tribute to women and men who have invested in the professional success of women in the IPE field. Recipients have included scholars, an academic press editor, and deans. In 2009, with the view that many of its original goals had been reached and that other organizations were addressing its concerns, SWIPE disbanded. The award is now administered by the International Political Economy Section of ISA. Nominations must include the nominee's current c.v. and a letter (no more than 2 pages) describing how the nominee has mentored women in IPE. Nominations may come from any member of ISA and should be sent by e-mail to the Committee Chair, Kathleen J. Hancock at khancock@mines.edu. The deadline for nominations is July 15, 2011. CFP: International Graduate Student Conference in Political Science, IR and Public Policy

The conveners announce the Call for Papers for the 7th annual Graduate Conference in Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy in memory of Yitzhak Rabin, to be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, between December 14-16 2011. Call for Nominations: The Boulding Award

The Peace Studies Section of ISA sends this reminder that nominations for the 2011 Boulding Award are due at the end of this month. The award was established to honor Kenneth E. Boulding, a founder of the field of Peace Studies. The Award Committee seeks a graduate student research paper, delivered at the most recent ISA annual convention, that is (a) theoretically based, (b) empirical (qualitative and/or quantitative), and (c) relevant to a significant problem in the field of peace studies. Any excellent exploration in the area of Peace Research is eligible. Direct submissions from graduate students and nominations from panel chairs and discussants are welcome. The award recipient will receive a two-year membership in ISA, a travel grant from the Peace Studies Section toward expenses to attend the ISA Annual Convention, and a certificate to be awarded at the 2012 convention. To nominate, please submit an electronic copy of the paper presented at the recent Montreal convention to Landon Hancock (lhancoc2@kent.edu). Please include the full contact information and institutional affiliations of the nominator and, if different, the nominee. Deadline for submissions: June 30, 2011.
