The Conflict Records Research Center (CRRC) at the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at the National Defense University invites scholars to submit papers for a three panel conference on al-Qaeda and associated movements to mark the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The panels will examine what we knew about al-Qaeda before 9/11, what we have learned over the past 10 years, and how captured records and other primary sources can contribute to our understanding of future challenges from al-Qaeda and its affiliates. Papers may approach the problem from any of a number of perspectives, such as terrorism studies, area studies, and military history. The conference will be held at the National Defense University in Washington, DC on 13-14 September 2011. Special consideration will be given to papers that make use of the al-Qaeda and associated movements captured records archive at the CRRC. Each proposal should include a summary of the topic and a resume of the participant. The summary should specify the sources used for the research. The deadline for proposals is 15 June 2011 and the deadline for the papers is 15 August 2011. Email proposals to Joseph.Simons@ndu.edu. Please see the CRRC website for more information.
