CFP: World Congress for Korean Politics and Society 2011

The Korean Political Science Association will host the World Congress for Korean Politics and Society 2011 on August 23-25, 2011 in Incheon Songdo. Following the tradition formed by the two World Congresses in 2007 and 2009, this biennial conference will mark the third round of innovative and insightful discussions on Korean politics, society, and international relations, and will bring those discussions into the global context. The main theme for the World Congress 2011 is Korean Politics in Global Contexts: Theories and Practices. The paper/panel proposal deadline to Friday April 15, 2011. Please submit the proposal with an abstract not exceeding 300 words through the KPSA homepage. Fellowship - Peace and Conflict Research

CFP: Conference on Terrorism and Global Security

The conference hosts invite proposals for the 2nd Annual Conference on Terrorism and Global Security:  Exploring New Centers of Gravity and Clausewitz in today’s Global Security to be held September 1-2, 2011 at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC. A Paper proposal of no more than 250 words is to be sent with your name, paper title, position, and institutional affiliation to 2011conference@amisc.org  addressing where we potentially should be focusing. Topics may include: terrorism and civil liberties, law enforcement, domestic laws, laws of armed conflict, information sharing, regional hotspots, education systems, and modern warfare. CFP: RISC 2011 Conference

The Consortium for Comparative Research on Regional Integration and Social Cohesion invites papers for a conference on Social cohesion: The missing link in regional integration to be convened at the University of Johannesburg from  30 November - 3 December 2011. The conference allows for presentations made in English, Spanish or French, with simultaneous translation being provided by the conference organizers. Abstracts should be received by May 10, 2011. Forecasting in International Relations

A final publication on forecasting in international relations from the theme panels at the 50th Annual Convention of the ISA in 2009 has just been published as a special issue of Conflict Management and Peace Science (vol. 28, no. 1, February 2011). The theme of the Convention was “Exploring the Past, Anticipating the Future”. The CMPS issue contains three articles by Siri Rustad, Halvard Buhaug, Åshild Falch & Scott Gates (”All Conflict is Local: Modeling Sub-National Variation in Civil Conflict Risk”), Patrick Brandt, John Freeman & Philip Schrodt (”Real Time, Time Series Forecasting of Inter- and Intra-State Political Conflict”), and Bruce Bueno de Mesquita (”A New Model for Predicting Policy Choices: Preliminary Tests”), as well as an introduction (”Forecasting in International Relations: One Quest, Three Approaches”) by Gerald Schneider and Sabine Carey  (program chairs for the 2009 Convention) & Nils Petter Gleditsch (President of the ISA 2008-09). Another set of papers from the 2009 Convention was published as a presidential symposium in International Studies Review in March 2010.

The Annual Convention: What To Know Onsite

United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program

The United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program will be offered from Monday, July 25 to Friday, July 29, 2011, by the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and the United Nations Foundation – United Nations Association of the USA.  Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this unique program immerses participants in the political dynamics of the United Nations.  Students will attend official sessions at United Nations headquarters as well as briefings at UNA-USA.  Directed by Dr. Courtney Smith, Associate Dean at the Whitehead School, and Ms. Minh-Thu Pham, Director of Public Policy at the United Nations Foundation, the course is designed to familiarize students with the inner workings of the United Nations by bringing them together with distinguished practitioners working in the field of multilateral diplomacy.  The program is structured around a series of seminars led by U.N. officials and representatives of governments and civil society on a wide range of global issues currently on the U.N. agenda. Students may apply online. The application deadline is May 1, 2011.

ASEN Scholarships 2011

The Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism is offering a scholarship worth £1000 to PhD candidates in the fields of nationalism and ethnicity. All ASEN members who are PhD students registred at institutions in the UK and Ireland are eligible. The closing date for the applications is on May 15, 2011. CFP: Forecasting World Events Project

Those interested in global security and politics, business and economics, public health, science and technology, or social and cultural change are invited to participate in a unique, online research study sponsored by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA). The Forecasting World Events Project is part of a federally funded research program investigating the accuracy of individual and group predictions about global events and trends, leading to fundamental advances in the science of forecasting. To support this research, the Project seeks to build a diverse panel of forecasters with interests in any of the above domains. Participants are invited to offer predictions about the questions that interest them most, update those forecasts as often as they like, and interact with fellow forecasters via optional discussion boards. The Project is scheduled to run from 2011 through 2013. Registration is now open at www.forecastwe.org. Following notification, selected participants will begin offering their predictions via an interactive forecasting website.

CFP: Race/Ethnicity - Land Ownership and Tenure

The journal Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts calls for paper for an issue on the theme Land Ownership and Tenure. Papers must be received by September 15, 2011 to be considered for publication in this issue. Submission of artwork for the cover that relates to the theme of the issue is welcome.
